Mom’s a real American

April 22nd, 2007

My folks were over the past few nights, on their way to Montana.  We had a bunch of people over, friends and relatives, and ate tons of food.  We still have leftovers in the refrigerator.

Now I know where I get it from.  I don’t like being told what to do by anybody.  I especially don’t like people from other countries trying to push off their neutered politically correct politics on us, especially during times of tragedy.

Mom came to America alone, with very little money.  She first got a BS.  Then an MS.  Mom is tough, and knows how to survive.  She never played the victim card or the woe is me bullshit.

The other day, she was talking about the wimpy politicians who want to control our lives.  She said she doesn’t want to be told what to do by anyone.  Heh.  Now I know where I get it from.

Mom’s tough as nails, and doesn’t back down to anyone.  I’ve always admired that in her.  That’s what a true American is.  Someone who believes in personal freedom.  Someone who will stand up for it.  Someone who’s smart, tough, brave, and street wise.  I’m glad some Americans still have it.

Oh, by the way, Stubbs makes a fine bar-be-que sauce.

Boy, I can relate to not wanting to be told what to do. Anytime someone tries, this rebellious streak in me comes out and it’s not very pretty. Your mom sounds like quite a lady. Where did she move here from? Hope your parents like Montana - very pretty country (parts of it).

Notta - They love Montana. Only go there for summers though. They’re both retired, although my father occasionally does some work so they have some extra money.

She’s from the Philippines, but has some Chinese blood as well.

I’m glad you don’t like being told what to do. People who like telling other people what to do drive me nuts. That’s one of my pet peeves. I really think it’s part of American national character, and it’s a good thing.

Lime - Yes she is. I love Mom. :)
Bhakti - Thanks! I fell in love with it when I saw this theme. I’m glad someone offered me some space to blog. I’m liking WordPress better than Blogger.
Hope all is good with you back East.

    Right on, brother.

What’s just as disturbing as politicians’ desires to rule over everyone is the people’s seeming desire to be ruled over.

I’m starting to really cement into that kind of thinking, seeing more clearly the trends that are leading to more control over our lives. This whole VT thing, for instance, could be used as an excuse to completely remove guns from society. I won’t sit still for it, that’s for sure.

Don’t forget, Mother’s Day is coming up in a few weeks. Be sure to get her something special. ;)

My grandmother came to this county and spoke no english, had $20.00 knew her only her godparents and made her way. I agree with your description on what it takes to be an American.

Glad to see you are back here. Would it be ok to link you again?

I always blamed my German and Scottish heritage for that trait. Now I can say, “I’m American, deal with it!”
On the down side; I’ve often rebelled against people telling me what to do…and they were right…oops.

Scott(bob) - No argument here. Some folks don’t like to do things on their own, and would rather have others make decisions for them.

Scott - I won’t either, as you probably would have guessed.

Bsoholic - Already did. A pure silk scarf. :)
Jenbeauty - That’s awesome. And yes, please do.

Tshsmom - I’ve rebelled just to rebel before, and sometimes it blew up in my face. So I too know that feeling. :(
