Researching The Politicians

July 7th, 2007

Okay, I’ve already done my research. I’ve gone to http://www.issues2000.org/default.htm and found which candidate most closely resembles my beliefs. There are some things I seriously disagree with him about, but he’s the closest.

It’s Ron Paul, not a surprise to a lot of you. He puts Freedom first, and strongly believes in the Constitution, not as a living and breathing document, but as something that protects yours and my Rights, Rights we were born with that government will try to erode if given the chance.

Paul is hated among the current Republicans in power. Today’s Republicans are liars and frauds. Bush is one of the politicians I hate the most, for he’s as fake as they come. Bill Clinton cut spending and gave us a surplus. Bill Clinton, a Democrat, is economically the true conservative. Clinton leaves office, and Bush immediately raises spending to enormous levels and will leave your kids a deficit to pay off for decades. That’s not a conservative, my friends. That’s a failure who can’t balance a budget.

What’s worse is a scary amount of that money we owe is to China. China, one of the most evil nations on Earth (the government, not the people). But Bush puts the interests of his corporate sponsors and China’s banks above the interests of America and America’s people. That’s Bush for you, only looking out for his own interests.

Paul will change this. Paul believes in protecting the Constitution, not going into war without an official declaration of war by Congress (how it’s supposed to be done), and protecting American interests first.

If you truly care about your nation, keep what I told you in mind. Feel free to disagree with me. You may have different opinions, and that is fine. It’s a Free country. All I ask is you consider what issues are most dear to you and do your homework.

Do some research on http://www.issues2000.org/default.htm to find out where your favorite candidates stand on the issues you care about the most. And vote! Don’t make excuses not to vote either. As far as I’m concerned, if you’re not dying or attending a funeral on election day, you have no legitimate reason not to vote.

survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable,
for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor
moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling
through all the galleys, heard in the very hall of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor—he speaks in the accents
familiar to his victims, and wears their face and their garment, and
he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He

At the moment, Ron Paul has my vote too! I was leaning towards Obama….UNTIL I read his healthcare reform plan. Obama has obviously been bought off by the insurance companies too. :(
I don’t think I would’ve given Ron Paul a second glance if it wasn’t for you and Scott. Thanks!!

Hmmm, I took the quiz on the site you mentioned and my closest candidate (but at about 50%) is Clinton. She does not match every area that’s important, but she matches the areas that are most important to me. I like her stance on abortion ,education, health care, stem cell research, and reducing the national debt. I really don’t like her stance on some of the family issues like banning what our kids are exposed to. I think regulating what our children are exposed to is our job as parents. However, I think that a lot of our children go unsupervised in a lot of their waking hours due to the necessity of two incomes and the number of single-parent households without any support. I also do not align perfectly with her views on immigration. I would tend to be stricter and I do not agree with illegals being able to obtain Social Security rights.

The problem with that quiz is that my views are sort of all over the place, so no one candidate matches me very well. I’ll be reading on other candidates to see, but the ones it matched me with were predominately Democrat. My best friends and my dad, who are staunchly Republican, will give me hell for that. This may be horrible to say, but couldn’t just about anyone do a better job than Bush?

I don’t know much about US politics but I know that i liked Clinton, he had a great international economic and trade policy and he was a brilliant diplomat; so I would obviously support anyone trying to emulate Clinton. I was very lucky in France for Sarkozy represnet everything I believe in. I’m so very proud of him and loathe any frenchies who can’t appreciate all the good he can do to our country.

Tshsmom - I really want to like Obama, but yeah, I’m going with Paul for obvious reasons. It’s just issue by issue, I agree with Paul more.

Notta - I’m really glad the site worked for you. You named off the issues you believe in most and found the closest person was Clinton. Then, the site worked.

La Cremiere - I’m glad for Sarkozy. I don’t know much about him other than he’s trying to create a better economic model for France, with some economic nationalism and protectionism, something we need here in America, and wants to have better diplomatic relations with America. I’ll have to do more research on him.

Thanks for the plug in the previous post.

As you know already I am for Paul. I know he has a lot of grassroots support, but the serious hurdle he faces is getting the nomination. The Republican Party hates him and the primaries are run by the party elites. The only way, and I repeat only way, that Ron Paul can get on the ticket is if he gets enough people who support him who are delegates to the primaries. They cast the votes and unless he gets those votes it will not matter whether he has a huge majority of public support.

I cannot stand McCain. I hate him almost as much as I hate Bush, and that is some serious hatred going on there.

I think Romney is too polished and is ready to change positions for political expediency. His is, as my wife says, made of plastic. No true substance to this guy. Good GQ magazine cover material is all Romney is good for.

Giuliani is a hypocrite, a liar, an adulterer, and wants to take my guns. Screw him!

Clinton is too much the politician. Every move she makes is calculated well in advance. She is an ice woman who appears willing to tread all over anyone who gets in her path. While her husband was a likeable person, she is cold. I don’t like her beliefs that the government is there to take care of our every need. What did Thomas Jefferson once say, “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.” That is why I distrust the democratic platform overall.

Obama is another guy like Romney. I admire him for not taking PAC money and his initial stance on the war in Iraq, but again, he is a democrat and that means he believes the government should be our nanny, taking care of our every needs. He is also a bit too polished for me.

If our leaders would just do what the Constitution says they are supposed to the choice for president would be much clearer. We have become a nation dependent upon government aid; subsidies, assistance programs, and we have lost our ability and will to be self sufficient.

Our governmental agencies are all failures and the politicians think the way to fix them is to pump more money into them. The FDA tests less than 2% of the food coming into this country and look at the results. Poisoned food from China.
Homeland Security is supposed to defend us from terrorism, yet 6 years after 911 we still cannot control our borders and ports. No Child Left Behind is a failure. I could go on and on. Our government borrows money from the FED to run the country, and then our taxes pay the interest on a loan that can never be paid off under our current monetary policies. The whole time the banking establishments get rich off our indebtedness.

If we could just shake this government monkey off our backs and return to government as our founding fathers wanted we would be much better off for it. That is why I support Ron Paul.

Sorry bout the post on your post Zombie. Got on a roll and couldn’t stop the words from coming…

Chris - I’m replying now because your post ended up in the “awaiting moderation” because it had 2 links. It got caught in my spam filter.

Thanks for the post and the info. I’ll check out those youtube vids.

Neal - No, I’m actually glad when you go off. I actually agree with you on the other politicians, and that’s why I’ll be supporting Paul both with my vote and with some money. He’s the one guy who gets it.

you really do a service by publishing this link. i haven’t had a lot of time to rumage through it but i have it bookmarked and most deinfitely will be using it and referring others. whether we come to the same conclusions or not at least they are informed and that’s so important. it bothers me that so few people vote but it bothers me more when people are proud of not even knowing what the issues are or where their candidate stands.

From what I know about Ron Paul, most of of his positions sound solid. The few things that are a little spooky are pretty spooky, though. Need to understand better where he is looking on economic policy and foreign affairs. I like the principles he is working from, but eliminating income taxes, for instance, is a bit of a tectonic shift. It would be really interesting to see how he would interact with congress, what he would actually be able to accomplish.

    Great post, Z!

  12. comment number 12 by: The Zombieslayer

Lime - Take your time. Plenty of time before election day. The whole idea of the site is for you to make an informed decisions based on the issues that are important to you.

Yonder - Yes, there are some issues that I disagree with him about. But all in all, he’s the closest.

We’ll never get rid of income tax, but imagine a nice compromise. Less taxes is in my book almost always a good thing.

Ok here is the stupid question of the day. When is election day this year or next year? I have noticed I am asking a lot of stupid questions recently and getting dumb answers back here at home so I am asking a dumb question now because I havent really been following whats going on with these people or the other things in life as well as I should be really.

  14. comment number 14 by: jenbeauty

YAY…thank you for the link. I have sent it to my husband and he will forward it to a few friends. Better informed is always a good thing.

I’m not sure how I feel about politics anymore.
Sort of getting jaded. That being said, I’d vote for the one who’d go the extra mile to avoid the zombie apocalypse.

How’d you do in the quiz?

  16. comment number 16 by: Zombieslayer

Tweety - I had a teacher tell me once that there’s no such thing as a stupid question. We just have impatient teachers.

The election is next year - November 4th if I’m not mistaken.

    Jenbeauty - ‘Tis. I’m glad I could help. :)
Joe - I only got 80%. My faults - I live in a heavily populated area (Lafayette, CA). And I’d go back to save my loved ones.

Of course you know I have guns, know how to make Molotov cocktails, and don’t spook easily.

  17. comment number 17 by: Unitedwelay

Kusincih and I agre on most issues. I think we really have to be agressive on getting information about the candidates. Ron Paul is great, if you’re not a woman.

  18. comment number 18 by: Scott

Ron Paul talks about the Federal Reserve.

That’s pretty much all I need in a candidate. The things I disagree with him on are things a President wouldn’t deal with anyway, except he’s a little more anti-immigration than I am. I like his ideas about ending birth right citizenship though.

  19. comment number 19 by: Neal

Molotov cocktails are cool, but I prefer bathtub napalm.

  20. comment number 20 by: The Zombieslayer

United - That’s about the only thing I disagree with Paul about.

There were some things I liked about Kucinich as well. You know what I believe, so you can probably guess those issues.

Scott - Heh, you and I have talked about Paul before on several occasions. :)
Neal - Against zombies, I’ll still take a good shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle.

Would you be interested in blogging about Ron paul on my new Candidate blog?

  22. comment number 22 by: Mybrid

Thanks for publishing the link. Now I finally know whom to vote for. This definitely helped!

  23. comment number 23 by: Scott

The thing with abortion is that it’s not a presidential issue. To base your vote on abortion would be like basing your vote for the governor of your state on whether or not he supported a war.

Plus Ron Paul has openly stated the Federal Government has no business banning abortions.

  24. comment number 24 by: Unitedwelay

    Scott,
With all due respect, you are not a woman and really have no idea how important it is to have a President to supports your right to choose. Whenever there has been a Pres who diesn’t the cause for women’s rights has gone backward. I agree that it’s not a Presidential issue, but the GOP has made it one. Besides, do you really want a President who doesn’t support equal rights?

  25. comment number 25 by: Scott

“With all due respect, you are not a woman and really have no idea how important it is to have a President to supports your right to choose.”

That’s kinda irrelevant, in’it? I mean I wasn’t a Jew in 1939 but I’m still pretty sure they got a raw deal there. If I was coming down on your side then would I I have an idea?

Is it really all that much harder to get an abortion today that it was 8 years a go? Really? 7 years unders a GOP president and how far “backwards” have we gone?

“Besides, do you really want a President who doesn’t support equal rights?”

No, of course not, that’s why I don’t typically vote for democrats and republicans. As I said already Dr. Paul has openly stated that he doesn’t beleive the Federal government has the power to ban abortions.

  26. comment number 26 by: The Zombieslayer

United - Scott is right. While Paul does not believe in abortion, he will not ban abortion, because he believes it’s not the federal government’s place.

But I definitely see your concern. If I were a woman, abortion rights would be a bigger issue. To be honest with you, it’s probably #9 or #10 for me. As you probably guessed, I’m pro-choice.

Oh, and yes, email me the new blog address. My email is zombieslayer AT pretentiouscritics DOT com.

Scott - I’ve always thought abortion should be a state issue, not a federal issue. I really hate it when the federal government gets involved in things they’re not supposed to get involved in. As is right now, the federal government has usurped a lot of power that should be reserved to the states.

    Mybrid - I’m glad I could help. :)
