756 & Do It Yourself Energy
August 8th, 2007Do It Yourself Home Energy
Are you a redneck with some land and a bit of extra cash? Does your land get either sun or wind? If so, you’ll love this website:
http://www.homepower.com/
It reviews everything from solar panels to wind generators. Me personally? My anti-zombie compound will have both. Imagine having a $0 energy bill because your house is that efficient. Yes, some months you’ll achieve that.
Like it or not, energy will be a problem in the future as this country gets more and more overpopulated and illegals come in and breed like rabbits, thus increasing the energy demands. Also keep in mind that China and India, the two most overpopulated countries in the world, are now economic powerhouses and everyone in their middle classes will want cars. The days of gasoline under $2/gallon may be over for good.
Don’t quote me on that though because my crystal ball is broken. Science may or may not keep up with demands. Predicting the future’s not a safe business to get into, but at this rate, it’s more than likely our energy problems will just get worse.
So if you have the means, do something about it. Me, I’ll be going back to biodiesel shortly (which that website also explains how to do) and I’ll have both solar and wind on my anti-zombie compound. Plus, as a Capitalist, I like things for free.
The Man You Love to Hate
Like it or not, Barry Bonds is now the greatest home run hitter ever in the history of baseball. He has the record. Some of you may want to put an asterisk by it, but remember these 2 things:
1) He’s never been caught. That may change. Someone may speak up. In this country, you’re innocent until proven guilty. Or, he might be innocent. I don’t know one way or another, and frankly, I don’t follow baseball enough to care.
2) Baseball is a cheating game. In hockey, you have fighting, like it or not. In baseball, you have cheating, like it or not.
As a San Francisco Bay Area resident on and off for thirty years, I have personal stories of Mark McGuire and Jose Canseco that would make you hate them. They both now admit to steroid use. Sammy Sosa got caught with a corked bat when an inside pitch snapped his bat in two. Pitchers do a million things to cheat, from spit balls to wiping their greasy hair then wiping the ball to sandpaper. Baseball players cheat all the time, and get away with it. It’s part of the game, like it or not.
I used to care. Today, I don’t. I stopped being a baseball fan with their last baseball strike. In football, some ungodly percentage of NFL players retire legally crippled. In baseball, you may have a bad shoulder or a torn hamstring when you retire. Go cry me a river.
So if you want to put an asterisk by Bonds’ 756, more power to you. Me? I put my Barry Bonds action figure high up in the office just to piss off Dodger fans. It’s so easy (and fun) to do.
Like most Canadians, I’m not a baseball fan. Not enough fighting, too much standing around. Watching millionaires stand around scratching their butts is almost as bad as watching televised curling.
thanks for the link..good stuff.
truth is, there is cheating in everything where there is money to be made and fame to be had…every sport, every business. i’ll laud the folks with integrity and disdain the ones with none.

SME - Yeah, it’s fun live, but on t.v., it’s almost as boring as golf.
Lime - At least the NFL makes a more honest attempt at cutting it out. Steroid tests are random, so you never know when you’ll get one.
I’m not at all excusing cheating, I’m just saying it goes on in baseball more than any other major sport. And no, golf is not a sport.
“1) He’s never been caught”
Well yes, he never got “caught”, but he did swear under oath to a grand jury that he DID use a “clear cream substance” provided by the company that was supplying athletes with clear cream steroids.
1+1=2
I have to admit we arent big sports fans here. We watch football during the season to watch them basically throw eachother around but that is it and to see who wins the game but other than that all the richiness of these people is down right correct. I know a guy here in GB that knows Bret Favre personnally and I keep telling him so what? LOL.. He keeps telling us Bret isnt what you would expect of a human with that kind of money but I dont care he has millions while I have only maybe like 30,000 a year or so. You may say so what to that to most people but when you meet a rich person like Bret you are just a sore on the end of there nose really if you dont have as much as they do.
lol packers, btw
The parents of one of SME’s friends tried wind power for several years. We didn’t have enough wind here to make it worthwhile.
I’ve been keeping my eye on solar systems since we became homeowners. They’ve made great advances, like not having to have batteries anymore. However, the initial cost still isn’t worth the investment….yet. In the meantime, we’ll keep using passive solar power.
As a MN taxpayer, all I can say about professional athletes is that I’m SICK AND TIRED OF PAYING FOR THEIR DAMNED STADIUMS!!
Barry Bonds will play three more years and nobody in his lifetime will break the record. And Barry may or may not have taken steroids, but the press hates him because they’re a bunch of fucking assholes. You’re right, innocent until proven guilty. And as someone who is older than probably any of your readers, the older you get, the bigger you get. It’s a fact of life. Him getting big as an indication of steroid use is bullshit. If that’s an indication of steroid use, I’m on steroids too then. Barry has been great to his fans here in San Francisco and I’m glad he’s here.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be going to that parade. I can’t wait.
And nice that some of you Right-wingers give a fuck about the environment. I now know better than to accuse you of being a Bush supporter. I don’t need that lecture again.
JJ - Au contraire, the Right is where the best environmentalists are from. I’ll do a post on that later.
And yes, I’ll join you for that party for Bonds.
Tshsmom - When I was in Seattle, the taxpayers voted AGAINST a new stadium. It got built anyways. Go figure.
As for wind, if you get less than 8 mph, you might as well have the thing up there for decoration.
Scott - He’s been testing many times and has yet to be positive. The only way he’ll be caught now is if someone testifies. Innocent until proven guilty.
As for my Packers, yeah, I foresee mediocrity.
Tweety - Favre supposedly is very down to Earth and treats everyone the same, whether or not they have money. That’s one thing that everyone likes about him.
the other thing folks identify him with is money aside, he has the same problems you and I do. His wife is a breast cancer survivor. He’s been through a slew of deaths in the past five years. And his home got ruined in Hurricane Katrina.
