Too busy to write

August 25th, 2007

My friends, I’ve been really busy lately. Haven’t visited your blogs nor have I written anything worthwhile. So, being inspired by Notta Wallflowers’s 10 things, I’ll write a quick 10 things:

1) I have no tattoos nor piercings, and I do not own a cell phone, a car alarm, an iPod, or even a T.V. I watch movies at friends’ houses or go to movies.

2) Junior just surpassed 100 pounds. I can still do 10 pushups with him on my back. Him being 13, I don’t think I’ll be able to do that much longer.

3) I love Japanese food (sushi mainly) and American steak the best

4) I’m currently reading a Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho. The book is called The Alchemist.

5) Two of my three favorite living authors are women - Isabelle Allende and JK Rowling. Jim Goad is the other. My favorite dead authors are Edward Abbey and the recently deceased Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

6) I’m looking forward to the NFL season starting. I’ll hit the local sports bars with Mrs. Z to watch the games.

7) I believe in God, that God is good, and that God can smash the Earth between his fingers like a child smashing a booger. Therefore, puny little humans cannot offend God. However, humans get offended waaaay too fucking easily.
8) I got a good wife, a good kid, and a good dog. I pity people who can’t appreciate what they have.

9) Nightwish’s album Once is the best piece of music written in the 2000s. They have a new album coming out next month, and a bunch of us are going to see them in November.

10) Music, guns, beer, fine food, the outdoors, open space with nothing around for miles, watching football with rabid fans, playing sports, playing games, running with my dog, clean rivers, watching sunsets, admiring beautiful women, these are all things I like.

We don’t own a cell phone either - got rid of it. And our TV is a hulking CRT that I won’t get rid of because it works like a charm.

I have The Alchemist on my to-read list for this winter.

I like all your fave authors ‘cept for Edward Abbey. He’s a helluva writer, but he killed a rabbit for no reason (didn’t even eat it!), and worse yet he got the ball rolling on environmental terrorism.

SME - Yeah, but the stuff he wrote was tongue in cheek. He was definitely more redneck than hippie, kind of weird how things ended up after his death.

Had no idea about the rabbit incident. That’s just wrong.

One of these days, I’ll do my anti-cell phone rant. Those things are prisons.

    You’re a good man ZS!!

#1 and #10 sounds just like our lifestyle.
We have a Tracfon, for emergencies. Only 3 people have our number, and it sits in my purse…turned off.
We’ve rarely turned the TV on this summer. When we do, we watch Discovery, Starz, or the History Channel.

#7 needs to be posted on one of those outdoor church marquees. I would only make one correction — between HER fingers!

Wow. Amazing answers Zombie. I liked them. We have one cell phone in the house because J’s work pays for it. Its for him while he’s on the road. Other than that we dont own one for our selves. We have had prepaid phones but nothing special with them either. And NFL season I would rather sit in the comforts of my home and watch the game. You can see better for one thing and dont have to stand in line to go to the bathroom at the Stadiums. LOL…

    Clothosfate - I’ll post a review when I finish.

    United - It’s because you’re young. ;)
Tshsmom - Thanks. I do miss the History Channel. That’s good television.

Lime - I wouldn’t mind owning an iPod though, I’ll have to admit.

    McKay - Thanks.

Annie - I think we all see God as we want to see God, and as I’ve said, it’s not possible to offend God, only humans.

Tweety - Bathrooms at stadiums are always nasty as well. I guess that’s one way it’s easier to be a guy. ;)

I loved “The Alchemist” - what a great book! One of my husband’s favorite authors is also Vonnegut. I’ve yet to read one of his books, though. Glad you completed the “10 things”. :-)

No cell phone?! No t.v.?! Damn, I admire you. I also admire the statement you made about having a good wife, a good kid and a good dog, so many men don’t seem to realize a good life when they have it. Bless you. :)

Notta - Glad you liked it. I’m just starting and it’s good so far.

    Moni - Thanks. 8)

You and my mom should sync your cell-phone rants. She’s got plenty to say about them these days too, thanks to the young ‘uns who worked with her over the summer.

  15. comment number 15 by: The Zombieslayer

SME - Heh. That would be cool, to post it on the same day.

I haven’t started mine, but got plenty to say.

Hello Z. I just wanted to say hi and let you know that the hubby and I finally are waving the white flag and moving into a rental. We are foreclosing on our current house after going into the hole 15,000 on the sale of our second home.
    *sigh*
We officially lost our butts and have joined the stats.
    How are you?
    Visit me.

Sadie - Sorry to hear that. Sent you an email.

I gave in on the cell phone issue three years ago because I was driving alone to races long distances and my home phone was ridiculously expensive considering I never made any calls. I watch TV, regularly, but mostly DVDs.

I was looking at The Alchemist the other day at Borders. I look forward to hearing what you think of it.

1-I love vanilla ice cream, I could live off it if I had to. I also make damn good homemade salsa, and could eat that every day as well.
2-I am deathly afraid of spiders, but I love snakes.
3-I don’t have time to read any good books. I am too busy writing one of my own.
4-I collect knives. I have a Japanese sepaku knife with an ivory hilt that sits above my computer desk. I also have a WW I bayonet, and about a dozen others for work. All of them are sharp enough to shave with. (why bother having a knife if it isn’t kept sharp?)
5-I have been happily married for 18 years and can’t see that changing in the near or distant future.
6-I am infatuated with the latest album by Rush, Snakes and Arrows.
7-I have a TV, but I only watch it about 4 hours a week, (news mostly)
8-I turned down a job making twice the money I do now because it involved going to Iraq for the military. I can’t with clear conscience, work supporting a war I do not agree with.
9-I have no tattoos or holes stuck in my body, other than the ones God gave me at birth.
10-Stevie Nicks could be ugly as the south end of a north bound skunk and still seduce me with her singing voice.
