If I were running the show (illegal immigration)
August 30th, 2007In my last post, I talked about a compromise, realpolitik. Something I don’t like to do, and yes, I’m turning cynical when it comes to the Senate. It’s like I don’t expect much from them.
In an ideal world, this is what I’d do with illegal immigration if I were running the show:
1) Immediately double the amount of Border Patrol agents, and immediately let those 2 who shot that drug dealer in the ass out of prison.
2) HEAVY fines on employers who hire illegals. With each offense, the fines go up.
3) Allow police, fire, and hospitals to report illegals. No more don’t ask don’t tell.
The emphasis will be on #2. See, the reason why President Bush and so many of our multi-millionaire Senators are pro-illegals is because illegals undercut American workers. They not only work for cheaper, with illegals, you don’t have to pay Social Security if you’re an employer, nor do you have to pay any other benefits. This is really bad. It hurts not only Social Security, but keeps our healthcare prices high if you’re an American.
This is an assault on the Working and Middle Classes of America. It’s a direct assault, and Americans need to get their heads out of their asses. It’s not about doing the jobs Americans won’t do, and has EVERYTHING to do with employers not having to pay the taxes and benefits that they SHOULD BE PAYING. When employers don’t pay those taxes and benefits, guess who gets the bill? That’s right, YOU.

It pisses me off that Bush can pardon his cronies, but he won’t pardon the 2 poor schmucks that were only doing their job!
and this can be accomplished without further vloating the bureacracy. may i also add, that for the legals who have jumped all the hoops and proven themselves an asset to our society the process should be streamlined. they should be rewarded for being law abiding and productive. thusly we would send the message that we are nto xenophobes by staying true to our foundation as an immigrant nation. tighten our borders to people sneaking in and open them to the hard working folks who wnat to contribute.
Rescue workers don’t have to report illegals?! That’s crap.
This is a good plan. Simple, and effective if actually put into practice…it’s a shame you’re not running for the Senate!
How do employers hire illegals anyway? When I worked at the U, I had to fill out forms for each new hire including proof of something or other. What the hell was that form called? The new hire needed to present either a driver’s license & social security card or a passport. We did have someone from India, so in that case he needed an H1-B visa. I’ve heard of “under the table” but you can run a company entirely that way.

Kathleen - Happens all the time unfortunately. It’s more common among corporate farms, but Wal-Mart recently was busted for it big time. They’ve been hiring illegals for years.
Construction is another area you see a lot of illegals working illegally. That way, construction companies don’t have to pay benefits nor follow safety regulations.
You know and I know what should be done. It is all summed up in the single word, “illegal”. Yet our politicians cannot figure it out. duh??? Laws? Aren’t we supposed to maintain LAW and thus follows ORDER?
