Milla & Perennials vs Annuals

September 22nd, 2007

I love Milla Jovovich. I couldn’t get Mrs. Z to go to the 3rd installment of Resident Evil, so I went with my buddy and fellow blogger Kate instead. Kate loves horror films, and I love zombie films, so she was perfect to go with. She said she’ll write the review this time so I won’t have to. Anyways, we both enjoyed it immensely. No, it was not a cinematic masterpiece with a complex storyline and great literary dialog. But it was fun.

Combating Global Warming

One thing that pisses me off about fellow Right-wingers is they completely deny any environmental problem exists. I’m not 100% sold on global warming, but I’d rather err on the side of caution. It’s kind of like if you have a 30% chance of dying crossing the street, then don’t cross the street. You’d think it’s common sense.

The problem with the Left when it comes to environmental issues is that they’re a bunch of Luddites. Technology and Science can be good things.

Scientific American recently had an article on global warming and how to prevent it. One thing that caught my attention was the article on perennials versus annuals. In case you don’t know what they are, perennials are plants that last for years and annuals are plants that die every year so you have to replant them.

Perennials’ roots grow deep and help put nutrition back into the soil. Annuals need both fertilizer and herbicide, both of which are bad for the environment because their runoff kills fish and other river and oceanic life. Perennials also attract wildlife, whereas in farms that grow annuals often are low or devoid of wildlife. And we all know how much I love wildlife.

Most importantly if you’re talking about global warming is that perennials add oxygen to the atmosphere whereas annuals add CO2, which is bad. A lot of agricultural colleges now are working on producing more perennials, which would be a good thing. The problem is we’re decades away from putting these plans into action. So if you have a small farm, consider growing perennials rather than annuals. I’ll definitely look into it when we finally get around to building my anti-zombie compound.

Speaking of magazines

I’ve always found Nicole Kidman sexy. I have no idea why she ended up with that loonie toon Tom Cruise, but luckily they’re not together anymore. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done and she bred with him. We don’t need more of his progeny in this world. One Tom Cruise is enough.

So on the cover of Vanity Fair, it says “Nicole Kidman bares all.” I ought to go after them for false advertising. I’m not too upset because I didn’t purchase the issue, but instead read it at the office. Ms Kidman is not nekkid anywhere in the magazine. So guys, don’t waste your time.

Speaking of celebrities

Sorry Clothosfate, but I’ve never seen Angelina Jolie as sexy. Her whacky mood swings scare me, and her Lara Croft does not do it for me whatsoever. Now Milla Jovovich with her Alice character, that’s sexy. If you like zombie movies, check out the latest Resident Evil. Milla definitely has it.

My review is ready. I actually wrote one. :)

Nice. We both said some of the same things. 8)

    grrr, trying again.

ok a question. how do you figure annuals add COs to the atmosphere? they are green plants. all green plants take in CO2 and give off oxygen? i do apprecaute the other points made about the two types of plants and it works for me since perennials require less intervention from me and thereby i am less likely to kill them.

as for the right and left, once again neither side takes a reasonable position. i agree

LIme - Great question. I hope I answer this correctly. This is from memory from reading Scientific American.

Dead plants release CO2, live plants O2. The net result of annuals is actually bad when computing CO2 vs O2. This is something the scientists were measuring.

The net gain of perennials is significant and can drastically reduce greenhouse gases if we’d only go back to growing perennials.

ah ok, i am informed, thanks.

I totally cannot stand Nicole but I absolutely adore Milla. I remember when 5th Element came out - I had been so down on myself for being too thin and having small boobs then I read that Milla and I had the same measurements and the movie said she was the example of the perfect woman. I didn’t get all cocky but I sure felt better about being so scrawny :)

    Lime - :)
Jean - If I were a woman, I’d have Milla’s body. I think she’s gorgeous. She has A-cup breasts and they look great! I’m glad they have a Hollywood star that’s real.

I’m also glad that in this movie, the good guy (Milla) was a good guy, not some reluctant, cynical dork who ends up in a good guy role, but someone who is good from the inside and does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

Annuals need both fertilizer and herbicide, both of which are bad for the environment because their runoff kills fish and other river and oceanic life.

Saw a show on Discovery during shark week linking pollution runoff into the ocean with the increase in Bull shark attacks. Bull sharks hover close to the coast and an expedition to very polluted Brazilian beach with numerous Bull sharks attacks, so much so that the beach is mainly closed, showed a near lifeless ocean close to the beach. I hate to compare Cuba to anything good but a second trip to a rather desolate very clean beach in Cuba had no recent Bull shark attacks but a flourishing aquatic environment with the Bull sharks rather docile to the divers. These attacks and sightings of Bull sharks is even hitting close to my favorite spot, Pawleys Island South Carolina, which has had a huge increase in population and construction these last twenty years so I’m all for anything that uses less fertilizer and herbicides.

    - so, fruit trees are better for the environment than corn and pumpkins, etc.. interesting.

    - nicole kidman has improved over the years and i think being married to cruise made her the star she’s become. her plastic surgery didn’t hurt either. she didn’t breed with cruise. they adopted two kids. katie holmes bears the fruit of his loins. i know way too much trivia. time to go read some russian literature to balance my chi.

McKay - Well, that’s good news indeed! (Tom Cruise not fathering children with Nicole Kidman). The whole thought of it makes me shudder. Yuck.

Yes, fruit trees produce plenty of O2, although they’re a lot of work. I think corn was one of those crops that they’re working on making into a perennial because currently most corn is annual. I don’t know about pumpkins.

Beach - Yikes. They’re big fish too. Would hate to be attacked by one of them.

I’ll have to look up that beach. Never been to S Carolina. One of these days…

I forgot to answer the math question so here we go again. LOL…

I have some plants and flowers out front of the house that come back each year. I had some of them up before I realized that they came back each year.

Now onto the movie thing here. Jeff and I arent real big on Zombie movies but more into Vampire Movies. I have seen some pretty awful Vampire movies though.

Cool post, ZS, as usual we see eye to eye except for MJ (since I’m a guy’s gal).

Am on the liberal side re climate change, and it was more than a little bothersome listening to the news today (Canada at New York).

One thing that can be said for Mother Nature and climate change–it’s a self-curing disease.

Flowers and flakes all in one post.

Dang, I wasn’t the first one to tell you that Nicole didn’t breed with the lunatic fringe. I have to imagine she’s in therapy after spending all that time with him.

  16. comment number 16 by: tshsmom

I agree, pollution is bad, even if it doesn’t cause global warming.

I still don’t understand the CO2 thing with the annuals. Perennials come back up every year, but they still die, and rot, above ground every year.

Hmm… no plans here to see Resident Evil 3, although my husband would like to see it. I’m finally glad to see someone who is not an Angelina fan - I personally can’t stand her.

  18. comment number 18 by: The Zombieslayer

Tweety - I like vampire movies too, but yeah, most of them unfortunately are really bad.

    Lime - Replied. :)
Bridget - Yeah, me too. I’m not a scientist by training, I’m a historian. But I think on this one, I’d rather side with the liberals to be on the safe side. I wish they were wrong, but it’s better to err on the side of caution. It’s also better to use less resources anyways.

Jessica - Reminds me of my California joke. You know why they call California the granola state? Because it’s full of fruits, nuts, and flakes.

Kathleen - I definitely would be. Poor gal.

Tshsmom - Ok, this is from memory so it could be not stated correctly, but I think it was perennials don’t really die, they just go into a sort of plant hibernation, so when they do that, they don’t give off CO2 like annuals do.

Notta - She’s unattractive to me. Too crazy. I’ve had crazy before once and never will make that mistake again.
