I got a 7 things tag. I guess I have to say 7 things about me and flesh it out a little.

1. One of my biggest regrets is I never served. I passed the Navy Officer test with flying colors, but at the time, they didn’t want a guy with a History degree. I thought that was stupid, because I would have been an excellent Officer. Looking back at it, I should have argued with them until they took me. Now I’m too old.

2. I work as a Software Engineer. I dropped out of Grad School, going for a Master’s in Computer Science. I simply ran out of money. Grandpa died and left me $8000, which I used to go to school. It ended up taking longer than I thought it would because I’m so bad at Math.

3. I like my job. I actually enjoy waking up in the morning. Well, it’s not because of my job. It’s because the first thing I see when I wake up is my wife. But I do really like my job. It’s by far the most mellow software engineering job I’ve ever worked at. I know I could make more money elsewhere, but I’d rather spend those extra hours with my family.

4. Since Beach Bum gave his 2 cents on our President, I’ll give mine. I think he’s horrible. He’s run up a huge debt, we owe billions to China, and our borders are like swiss cheese. He doesn’t understand simple economics, and I can’t see how anyone can call themselves a conservative with a straight face and like Bush. He spends and spends and spends and will leave us paying off his debt for decades. Plus, so much of the crap he does is Unconstitutional. This War on Terror is a joke, and it’s not making any friends anywhere. Whether you like it or not, we need friends. It’s realpolitik. I don’t think Bush gets that.

5. Politics frustrates me. I’m aware of what’s going on and probably send over a dozen emails/cards/letters to each of my Reps every year. But I can’t talk about it all the time or else I’ll put my fist through the wall. The thing is, I’m very patriotic and very much for Freedom and maintaining our Bill of Rights and maintaining the Republic. We’re moving away from all that into globalism, an apathetic state which will eventually lead to a police state, and becoming a Third World nation. That’s exactly what I don’t want.

6. We’re doing fine financially. Most of my friends aren’t though, and they have my full condolences. I fully understand the Middle Class Squeeze. The reason we’re doing well is we’re willing to relocate. We simply move to where the jobs are. You can’t expect most people to do that though. I grew up with it, so I’m used to it. Since 2000, we’ve lived in three states, well, four if you count Northern California and Southern California as two different states. ;) A joke between Californians.

7. I’m a hard-core Packer fan. I rarely miss a game. I refuse to work when the Packers are on. If I have to, I’ll lie and say it’s for religious reasons (it’s usually a Sunday anyways). I’m sure God understands.

Ok, I have to tag 7 people now.

Tshsmom - I’ve probably tagged you three or four times already, but you always have something interesting to say.

Tweety - Because I like reading about your family. You’re so brutally honest about life.

Kate - Just because.

Scott Bob - You need a blog update badly.

Neal - Since I steal so much from you, I might as well tag you too.

Yonder in Carp - You know more trivia than I do. And you’re younger than I am. You never cease to amaze me with what you know.

Ben - And last but not least, Ben goes back to the very beginning. He and I have been making fun of political correctness since May ‘05.

I totally agree with #4 and #5!! There are weeks when I can’t handle watching the news. The BS our gov’t pulls drives me WILD!!

We have a different approach to #6. We thoroughly enjoy the area we live in. City life is NOT for us! Instead of moving, and losing everything, we have opted to scale back our lifestyle to the bare minimum. This option isn’t for everyone, but it works for us.

No problem about the tag… you KNOW I’ll get you back! ;) I’ll get to the tag when my brain gets unmuddled. It’s been a rough week! :( You’re right. Scott needs a new post, and Ben has a LOT of catching up to do!

I’m getting sick of the city too, but it’s for the money. Once we’ve accomplished what we intent to accomplish, we’re outta here.

There are other ways to serve. I teach juvinille delinquents for MUCH less money than I’m worth. Some of my friends volunteer to teach English as a second language. Others are foster parents and coaches. I know that serving in the military is different, but you’re never too old to do something to make your community and your world a better place.

United - Agree. I’m kind of old fashioned and believe that I should have served in the military. Not saying you should, I’m saying I should have.

Yes, helping others is wonderful, and surprisingly, a large percentage of Americans do donate time in one way or another to some good cause.

I used to tutor Native American children with learning disabilities. That was my thing. Also, coaching was something I used to do.

Holy crap. I liked you until number 7.

  6. comment number 6 by: The Zombieslayer

Sorry Just. I’ll be a Packer fan ’til the day I die.

I like our city life compared to living in a town where there is nothing for anyone to do. I dont if its still this way or not but they didnt have a Movie Theatre last time we went home. They had just torn it down. I am not sure if they rebuilt it or not. Tshsmom you can correct me if I am wrong….. Also I will get to the tag later today or tommorrow. I just put up a new post this morning. I usually do that in the afternoons but I was feeling I needed to post early today.

“Sorry Just. I’ll be a Packer fan ’til the day I die.”

How’d that go for you last nite?

  9. comment number 9 by: tshsmom

Tweets, we’ve ALWAYS had a movie theater here! The last time you were here they were probably upgrading the theater from Cine 2 to Cine 5. This means that we now have 5 first-run movies to choose from in our hick town. ;)

I havent been home in over two years now. LOL.. The last time we were home was when Bri was almost a year old and we stopped and Kora was watching a movie with Z and playing with Harry. So its been a while. LOL….

I agree wholeheartedly with Tweetey29 - small towns are such a denial of life. To have to drive more than an hour to see a decent live act is too far for me - I feel asphyxiated, like stewing in my own fecal matter, when I consider moving away from a major metropolis. Not that I’ve sojourned into that can of Dinty-Moore in recent memory…

Thanks for playing along ZSlayer. I have to agree completely with your points on 4 and 5. On so many fronts Bush has been the best friend Al Qaeda could have ever wanted. Bush’s Blackwater friends leaving a path of dead civilians, many of them kids, is the latest example. Your point about Globalism was right on the mark, I fear that for our love of cheap electronics and clothes we could end up selling our souls to the Chinese. If we haven’t already done it.

  13. comment number 13 by: The Zombieslayer

Beach - I think we’ve already done it.

Badman - If you’re with a beautiful woman, there’s nothing like having nothing to do. :)
Tweety - Well, I do hope you’re enjoying Green Bay. It’s pretty bad, as a Packer fan, was in Madison but never the sacred homeland itself. :(
Tshsmom - 5 movies is plenty. I usually rent anyways and we’ll bring a movie and food over to a friend’s.

Scott - Stupid, stupid coaching! You have the Iron Man back there having a near perfect day in the 1st half, then you completely abandon the game plan that was working. I have no idea what they were thinking. When you have the enemy down, you put them away. You don’t let them get back up.

#3 makes me want to stand up and applaud. your love for your wife and son and keeping them as the priority rather than the job are what more folks shoudl be doing. it’s gravy that you have a job you truly enjoy.

    Thanks Lime. :)

School was a good thing to spend inheritance on. I’m glad you were able to make a go of it even without completing a full master’s. As far as the president, I really can’t say much. I never supported him from the beginning. His incompetence is disheartening.

I’m sure Grandpa is proud of me for that.

I never supported him from the beginning. His incompetence is disheartening.

The sad thing is, his incompetence will cost your sons both directly (paying off the debt) and indirectly because so many countries have lost respect for Americans.

Ouch! Next time you tag me don’t hit so hard.

    So, seven things about me?

    1) I am a die hard Rush fan. I have all their cd’s and could listen to them 24 hours a day for the rest of my life and never get tired of them. I just saw them on their Snakes and Arrows tour and was awestruck at how good they still sound live.

    2) I am probably going to be arrested and hauled off to some detention facility somewhere. I have written far too many letters to my elected officials condeming them for their disregard for the mandate they have within the framework of the Constitution.

    3) Should I tell this one? I have very high arches and crooked bones in my feet. If I have to stand more than 4 hours it feels like spikes have been driven into my feet and my heels feel like they have been beaten with a sledge hammer. I take 3 Motrin every 2 hours to deal with it.

4)I served my country in the USAF for 13 years. I am proud of my time and am sorry to say that if asked to serve again, at this point in time, I would have to decline. I do not think our military serves our nation as it was intended. Instead they are global mercinaries for the interests of the elite who are caught fighting a fraudulent war against an enemy that posed us no threat whatsoever.

5)We are doing okay financially. We both work, and I wish the missus didn’t have to. But we make ends meet and still can afford to send money to the Philippines to help her family. Our house is bought and paid for and we have no outstanding credit other than monthly shit.

6)I am a crack shot with both pistol and rifle, so don’t piss me off.

7)I grow bonsai trees and find it to be about the only thing that helps me unwind and forget about all the stupid shit our government is doing and how lazy and apathetic the majority of Americans have become.

…And if I may add a number 8, I think if the people of this country elect any top tier candidate, of either party, for our next president, this country is, excuse the language, FUCKED!

  19. comment number 19 by: The Zombieslayer

Neal - Thanks for doing it. Good ones to read, and I definitely agree with you on #8.

I’m only good with a rifle. But I’ve always believed a pistol was a last resort and exists so you can hold them off while reloading your rifle.

  20. comment number 20 by: Neal

I agree with you about pistols, but I think the feel and sound of a .44 mag is close to the neatest thing I have ever experienced.

  21. comment number 21 by: The Zombieslayer

Neal - Hate to say this, but never shot a .44 mag. :(
