Reviews + My Plane Crash 10

October 10th, 2007

Reviews

I watched Stardust and was disappointed. Yes, it was enjoyable. No, it wasn’t memorable. Highlights - Michelle Pfeiffer is one hot witch and Robert De Niro added a humorous element to the movie. However, Hollywood once again failed to make a memorable fantasy film. You can read my full review here.

I bought Venus Doom by H.I.M the first weekend of its release. If you like H.I.M, you can read my full review here.

Badman, Kate, and a few other friends went to see The Birthday Massacre last month. The three of us bloggers wrote a review here.

A Plane Crash 10. You survive a plane crash in some remote area. They’re looking for you, and they’ll find you within a few months. In the meantime, you only have 10 CDs to listen to. What are those 10 CDs?

Now keep in mind, these aren’t necessarily your top 10 of all-time, but rather 10 that you’d want to hear for the next month or 10. This is different from a Desert Island 10, where you have to pick 10 CDs you’ll listen to for the rest of your life. In other words, pick 10 favorites you can’t live without right now, not all-time.

01. Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
02. HIM - Venus Doom
03. Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution
04. HIM - Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights
05. The Birthday Massacre - Nothing & Nowhere
06. Beautiful Creatures - Deuce
07. Cradle of Filth - Cruelty & the Beast
08. Nightwish - Once
09. Nightwish - Century Child
10. Leaves’ Eyes - Vinland Sega

Yes, I know. Ten out of ten are Metal. I’ll make no pretense about being musically open minded. I see it more as knowing what I like.

I tagged 7 people in my last tag, so I’ll let you decide or not if you want to do this tag.

Hey I just wanted you to know I havent forgot about the tag.. I have just posted whats keeping me from doing it yesterday when I was going. My younger brother called and wanted to talk and I was here to listen. They lost there baby and he needed some one to listen to him even if he made no sense at all with what he was saying. But I will get to it today. I think that one was neat.

I’m going to seriously copout here but all ten CD’s would be Jimmy Buffett stuff.
    Beachhouse on the Moon
    Barometer Soup
    Banana Winds
    Off to see the Lizard
    Coconut Telegraph
    A1A
    Floridays
    Last Mango in Paris
    Riddles in the sand
    Somewhere over China

Beach Bum - No prob. We all know you’re a hard-core parrothead, which is cool. Even though I’m not into the music, I’d love to go to a Jimmy Buffet concert.

Cynnie - I used to listen to books on tape during that time of my life when I was so busy, I had no time to read. So I understand where you’re coming from in one sense. But I love music. If I had to give up tv, books, or music, I’d give up tv first, books second, and music last.

Tweety - Sorry to hear that. That’s really sad.

I’m going to drop by tomorrow morning. I have to go back to work tonight.

If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather have food than CDs in that plane crash. ;)

I have to give this one some thought. I love the Birthday Massacre pic.

    Tshsmom -
JACC - She even looked better in person.

I’m not quite sure what my plane-crash CDs would be, but they would have to be really chipper. Especially if I had to eat any non-survivors.

I read the novel “Stardust” and wasn’t impressed, either. I don’t think I’ll bother with the movie.

SME - Neil Gaiman is overrated. I hear his name in praises all the time and I think his stuff is ok. I love fantasy, but there’s definitely better fantasy writers out there.

Speaking of eating survivors, these two survivors from that Andes mountains plane crash are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says “does this taste funny to you?”

Wow, ZS - your little Plane Crash 10 query went over like - well what do you know: a Lead Zeppelin. Better luck next time. Enjoy your metal - we’re calling off the search.

Oh, and for the record I’d take a stack of porno mags, 30 gallons of 100% blue agave anejo tequila, and a box of Cubans. Cigars, that is.

Dang it…more money to be spent at the record store. Must have newest H.I.M.!

    My Plane Crash 10

    1) Substance - Joy Division (movie comes out next Friday here in Michigan and I’ll be there)
    2) Wishfire - The Cruxshadows
    3) DreamCypher - The Cruxshadows
    4) Fortress in Flames - The Cruxshadows
    5) I Just Can’t Stop It - The English Beat (as somebody pointed out, I’d need something cheerful)
    6) In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up - Ministry
    7) Floodland - Sisters of Mercy 8) Boi-Ngo - Oingo Boingo
    9) The Singles Collect - Skinny Puppy
    10) The Arbitrary Width of Shadows - Projekt Label Compilation

I’ve been addicted to Cruxshadows for a while now - CD in the car, CD in the bedroom, CD in the bathroom and my iPod even seems to know I want to hear them a lot. My choices were mostly about dancing. If I’m stuck somewhere with nothing to do, I’m going to want to dance. Sorry about no H.I.M. but I figured I was covered since you’d have yours. ;-)

Hey ZS - Kathleen’s your only fellow blogetter with superlative taste in music. Well, except for me of course.

I’ll get serious and post my PC10 in a bit.

  13. comment number 13 by: The Zombieslayer

Badman - Looking forward to reading them. There might even be something in there I could tolerate.

Kathleen - I emailed your post to Badman. He was impressed.

I love Ministry. Saw them last year.

For those who haven’t wandered far enough from their birth-roost, these are powernoise, elektro-ebm, harsh-ebm, terror-ebm, aggrotech, post-industrial goth metal, and punk. Go figure.

I’m honoured that badman likes my Plane Crash 10. I fear I’m fairly plebian in my choices compared to most of my very musically oriented friends. Now to check out badman’s choices.
