Why I’m voting for Ron Paul
October 14th, 2007Ron Paul has
- Never voted to raise taxes
- Never voted for an unbalanced budget
- Never voted for Federal restriction on gun ownership
- Never taken a government paid junket
- Never voted to increase the power of the Executive Branch
- Voted AGAINST the Patriot Act. How many politicians could say that?
- Voted AGAINST regulating the internet
- Voted AGAINST the Iraq War. Yes, you read this correctly. He was against the war from the beginning. How many politicians can say that with a straight face?
- Does not participate in the Congressional Pension program. If you don’t know what this is, PLEASE say so and I’ll write a whole new post on it.
- Returns a portion of his annual Congressional office budget to the U.S. Treasury every year
Plus, he’s against the National ID card, against government use of torture, for protecting our borders and enforcing the laws on the books when it comes to illegal aliens, he’s against the Draft, and for ending the War on Drugs.
Those of you who are Pro-Choice, I’ve heard complaints about Ron Paul but he is against the Feds making a decision on abortion and said it should be a state-by-state issue, which I fully believe. The Feds have no business making a decision on abortion whatsoever.
Industrial hemp should be a state-by-state decision according to Paul and he’s for states deciding whether or not they want Medical Marijuana.
As for our War on Drugs, he says “prohibition doesn’t work. Prohibition causes crime.” He said it’s a medical issue.
He gets an A+ from the Gun Owners of America (the ONLY gun group I belong to. The NRA are a bunch of sell-outs).
For Gay Marriage, he believes it should be a state-by-state issue, which is 100% what I believe. The Federal government does NOT belong in issues like these.
I have to say I do believe if you want an abortion its wrong because most of the time its from people or teenages that did the act and ended up pregnant and then dont want the baby or the responisibility of it. I am sorry to rant but I believe if youd do the act you live with the consquences. Unless a woman is raped and ends up pregnant that is a whole different matter to me. But adults and teenagers doing it and then wanting to get rid of it its a crime really. But hey we are always going to have issues on this subject and the Gay marriage thing.
I have to say is the church that Jeff and I go to doesnt believe in it but I believe if your happy with the same sex partner go for it but I like my marriage the way it is.
Tweety - Ron Paul is very much against abortion as a person. However, he believes it’s a States issue, not a Federal issue. Therefore, as President, he’ll make no decision whatsoever and leave it entirely up to the States.
Whether you are Pro-Choice or Pro-Life, I do believe the Federal government should have no say whatsoever in abortion. Not only abortion, but just about everything. The Federal government is simply too big and makes decisions States should be making.
Can a Canuk vote for this guy?
Bridget - No.
wow. i am going to have to give this guy a serious look. is it really possible there is a candidate out there who i would vote for because he actually has merit and isn’t merely the least odious of all choices?
Very true on the abortion. I guess its just so many young girls get pregnant and that is the best way for them out of it. So I try not to think of what the baby looks like at that point. Well said though.
Lime - is it really possible there is a candidate out there who i would vote for because he actually has merit and isn’t merely the least odious of all choices?
Yes, that’s why I like him so much.
Tweety - I don’t really have an opinion one way or another. I see both sides, and just think it’s a States issue, not a Federal issue.
To me, voting records say a LOT about a candidate. I agree about the Congressional pension plan. It’s OBSCENE!
Z needs to read this post. I keep telling him about Paul, but you do a much better job!
Tshsmom - Copy and paste it for him, by all means.
I know about the Congressional Pension Plan, but will pretend not to, so that you can write a post about it. The more people who know, perhaps something will be done. It’s ridiculous that I work bloody hard, put money into Social Security and have a very good chance I won’t get a damn penny out of it, while Congress doesn’t have to worry about such things.
Okay, I’ll admit, I have NO IDEA what the Congressional Pension Plan is.
So…what is it?
Kathleen and Andrew - I’ll do my next post on it.
I miss Harry Browne.
I’ve never NOT voted libertarian, but I just can’t get behind Ron Paul. I think it’s his name that bugs me more than anything.
I liked Harry Browne. I didn’t vote for him, but did vote for Badnerek. I got to see Badnerek speak too. Paid only $15 and it included food.
Hey, Z!
Ron Paul sounds pretty daggone cool from all have read about him. Would love to have the chance to vote for him, even though, of course, we won’t.
I like how he makes the separation on federal issues vs. states rights, as you pointed out. Abortion is kind of a sneaky subject, though. If abortion is simply and should be legally a crime, then it is a state issue, as murder or homicide. But if it is simply a privacy issue, a matter of constitutional civil rights, then it is a federal issue. The jurisdictional trouble is that it IS killing another person who is also resident within another person’s person.
I believe I read somewhere that RP is for the immediate abolition of the IRS. Go RP!
