Canadian man kills his daughter
December 15th, 2007I don’t get moved easily, but the reason this one hit me is it came from Canada, not the Middle East.
A 16-year-old Canadian girl, Aqsa Parvez, was strangled to death by her own father for not wearing her hijab (a traditional Muslim head scarf). Her father had beaten her before for not wearing it, and she had gone to school having to cover up bruises. She had been fearing for her life and actually had been living with a friend to escape the violence.
She had also been followed around to make sure she was wearing the hijab. Sadly, she had predicted her own demise, telling a friend of hers that her father was going to kill her for not wearing it.
Her father Muhammad Parvez has been charged with second-degree murder. Waqas Parvez, her brother, may be charged with obstruction of justice for intentionally trying to mislead investigators. Waqas Parvez is on bail for $10,000 and had to surrender his passport to authorities.
what in the world is wrong with this man that he prefers a dead daughter to an uncovered one?????
Lime - Misogyny. It’s simply that. That’s why I’m against fundamentalism in general, and fundamentalist Islam is probably the worst of all types of fundamentalism (besides fundamentalist communism).
I am stunned. This makes me want to rage.
Me too, my friend.
What a waste of human life. I saw a picture of the girl and she was a cute kid. She looked like a happy girl and someone who wanted to be fit in with her Canadian friends. For that, she paid with her life.
It’s a very sad story, we didn’t heard about it on this side of the ocean, these muslim fundamalists are crazy people, unable to think a bit further of what their iman teach them.
(answer to your question is posted on my blog)
This is a story that should be in every newspaper around the world. Behead the bastard.
Sharia law has NO PLACE in North American society! If the followers of Islam want to move here, they need to follow OUR laws, which include equality for women.
What you have to keep in mind here is that these were not “fundamentalists” who did this. They were, by all accounts, a very moderate Muslim family. That is the scary thing.
It’s not a Sharia or Muslim practice what happened, it’s a tribal practice that originates partially in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan) and partially in Arabia where women are the keepers of family honor. So to dishonor a woman (by raping her) or if she does something to bring “shame” on the family, then the only way to protect the honor is to punish her. The fact that otherwise “normal” families would buy into this nonsense shows you just how deeply the patriarchal structure is rooted. That’s going to take generations to change.
Terrible :[
I’m all for bringing people from other cultures from around this world to this, in this case, continent. One of my biggest hangups is the banal white bread WASP’s I am forced for various reasons to hang around. So I really enjoy getting a taste of other cultures. But new people coming here need to understand what we as North Americans may have to let slide by when we are in other parts of the world will not be allowed here. The dad needs to pay with his life.
The real problem is that we should not allow people to immigrate to Europe or Anglo-America who do not respect our values. This will mean carefully evaluating people who are Moslem, and if we do not see westernization, they should be denied entry. This may be very politically incorrect but its necessary to protect our culture.
Geo - Agreed. Screw political correctness. If they have warped values like that, don’t let them come here. I hate people like that.
I really feel bad for the girl because she really wanted to Westernize. I hope this guy gets raped repeatedly in prison.
Beach - I think he needs to die too. And agreed. I like getting a taste of other cultures, but that’s where I draw the line. I hate people like that guy. He had his friends and family members follow her around to make sure she was wearing it. They ought to deport that whole bunch. The girl was the only one I liked out of the bunch.
Miladysa - Yes, it is.
Laura - It’s not just patriarchal. I have no problems with patriarchy, just like I have no problems with matriarchy. Whatever.
The problem is this is straight up misogyny. They hate women and believe in keeping women down. When a woman shoes too much spirit, they beat her or kill her.
Tshsmom - Agreed! People like that should be deported. I have no shame saying that our culture is better. Adopt, or get out.
Skeletorsambora - Yes. It needs to be read. People need to know the crap that goes on with these ass clowns.
Kitem - Agreed. Thanks for posting that. I love architecture, especially stone. I don’t know what it is about stone, but I love stone.
You know that is why I love living in a free country. I would hate having to live like they do. I mean covering alost every part of your body. We have some of them here in Green Bay and it makes me sick to watch them on a 90 degree day and they are covered from head to foot in black.. I could never live like that. I have to have my shorts and tank tops and such. I feel for this poor girl. I hope he gets whats coming to him. They were in America so why should she have to wear this. I have to admit I hadnt heard about this until you brought it up but still. Poor girl. Talk soon.
Horribly sad. I’m glad Canada doesn’t have the death penalty so he can think about his crime for the rest of his natural born days…and I hope his fellow murderers teach him a lesson - not dead - just taught a lesson. I think it’s more of a punishment to have to live in a dank cell thinking daily about what you did to get you there.
hey you have been tagged. will have mine up tomorrow to have instructions. I didnt feel like two posts today.
Well, actually, a system whereby a particular person or group of people is deemed “in charge” merely because of the possession or lack of a genital organ (or skin color, or any other physical attribute) rather than possessing the skills needed to make appropriate decisions and lead a group of people is a bad way to run things - patriarchal, matriarchal, apartheid, what have you. So I don’t buy the “there’s nothing wrong with patriarchy” argument.
Best case scenario this will be a real eye opener to Canada.
Tweety - That’s just dumb. That’s an aspect of their culture that I have no tolerance for. It’s straight up misogyny. It’s basically saying that women are sex objects and distractions, so they need to be covered up. That’s sick.
Kathleen - Interesting way to look at the death penalty. I haven’t thought of that.
Tweety - Ok, I’ll jump on your tag.
Laura - My bad. I should have been more specific. I 100% agree with you when it’s a large scale. I was just referring to families. I’ve seen both patriarchal and matriarchal families that have been successful.
JACC - I hope so.
I don’t know about other Canadian cities, but local Muslims here have condemned this psycho - his daughter might have brought “shame” to a single family and offended God or whatever, but this guy makes an entire religious community look bad, and some Muslims won’t stand for that. Neither will the Canadian justice system. If this guy thinks he’s going to get a slap-on-the-wrist sentence for this, he’s sadly deluded.
SME - Good. I’m glad local Muslims are condemning this guy. This really looks bad for everyone and it’s time that people took a stand against this kind of crap.
Last I heard was 2nd degree murder. Too bad they can’t export him to American and send him to Huntsville. Some of the boys in there would take really good care of him. They don’t like child abusers.
allow me to split hairs here… patriarchy is a system - not an individual ocurrance. So what you have in your family is a mutually decided choice that certain decisions are yours. Patriarchy would mean that you have ultimate decision making power because you are male, that your father (or brother or uncle) as well as yourself has power over your wife and child, and your son has power over your wife…
Laura - Ok. Thanks for the clarification. I was misusing that word then. I didn’t know it was exclusively macro and didn’t also apply on a micro scale (per family).
ZS I live in the city where this obscenity happened. There were a few who wrote in to the local newspaper to explain that this behaviour is the work of a nutjob, not the religion.
Regardless, although I think that I have very few prejudices and am easygoing to a fault, I now get the creeps being around any Middle Eastern person. Sorry, but there are just too many nut jobs around here.
The top three languages spoken in Ottawa–Canada’s capital–are English, French and Arabic.
My guess is that we can expect to see more of this crap in the future. Sorry for the rant, but I’m sick of seeing news about murders of and by people with ME names.
The things people do to each other using God as an excuse.
BJ - Yikes. Didn’t know this one hit so close to home for you.
