It’s the Economy, Stupid
January 18th, 2008It’s not easy being an independent thinker. Independent thinkers tend to be better at detecting bullshit whether it’s from the Left, the Right, or up the Center. Recently, it’s been coming from all sides.
The state of the economy downright stinks. That’s what all these clowns running for office fail to tell you. With a decade of outsourcing the middle class to India and allowing illegals to undercut the working class, Americans themselves are in dire financial straits. If you haven’t heard the news recently, the British are now making more money per capita than Americans. It’s been a very long time since this happened last. But it’s happened.
To make matters worse, the American dollar has tumbled. It’s fallen so much that the Canadian dollar is neck and neck. The Canadian dollar. No, that’s not a typo.
Remember before GW Bush became President? We had an economic surplus? Gone. Now a fat deficit. Plus, the Euro was between 80c and 85c. Now it’s around $1.47. Should you be worried if you’re an American? Well, if you’re head’s not up your ass, yes.
To make matters even worse, we owe hundreds of billions of dollars to China. China, you know, that country that murders political prisoners and sells their organs on the black market. The country that has been trying to poison us with lead in pretty much EVERY SINGLE THING they sell us.
Bush has been an economic disaster. That said, the economy needs to be fixed. Former President Bill Clinton used to wear a button that said “It’s the Economy, Stupid” as a reminder that that needs to be his main focus.
Which candidate would be best to fix our economy? Well, I’m not going to think for you, but that’s something that if you’re an American, you really need to ask yourself.
Ah ZS it’s the British not the English and we are just as screwed.
Take no notice of the figures - they are misleading. We are also in dire straits - let’s hope Brown can turn things around.
Our Gas, Electric, Water, Railways etc. are now owned by foreign companies who make massive profits and fail to invest.
It all started with Margaret Thatcher who sold off our nationalised industries and instead of “less expensive if in private hands” they all charge top dollar and provide poor service.
If we want to complain about anything we have to speak to someone in India whose answers come from a supplied script.
It is costing us millions to fight a war in Iraq and our forces are spread too thinly in theatres all over the world.
OMG - I think I’ve turned into you
Yikes. I have to say I dont know where to go with this. I wouldnt know which one of those people is going to make it better for us. Bush has made a mess and now we have to live with it and have some one else clean it up like we do everytime there is a new election. I hope we get someone in there that has there heads out of there asses and gets things straight since Ragen.
Yeah, it’s scary!
Economists keep talking about the “depression” of 1991/1992. We were actually doing a lot better then, than we are now. Now, we have a huge increase in heating costs. Plus, everything from groceries to booze has increased in price due to the increase in fuel prices.
AND..no matter how patriotic some of our citizens may feel about the war in Iraq, we CAN’T AFFORD IT!
So far, the only candidate that has a PLAN for fixing the economy is Ron Paul. The rest of the candidates just whine about it.
Miladysa - Good catch. I fixed that.
Yeah, this globalism is great if you’re in the Upper Class. It’s bad if you’re not.
And those scripts drive me crazy. “Is it plugged in?” “Is the power on?” They don’t think, they just read a script.
I feel bad for you all for getting suckered into the Iraq War. I strongly believe we should be going after bin Laden, but he’s not in Iraq.
Tweetey - I hope so too. It’s currently a huge mess. I could go on and on with numbers showing how big of a mess it is, but that would just bore people.
Tshsmom - That’s another reason I like Ron Paul. And agreed with you about the Iraq War and fuel is going to be the cause of bigger problems. Fuel makes everything more expensive, because things have to be delivered.
I didn’t know that Great America was in such a state of despair!
I however agree totally with Miladysa, it is exactly the same thing here in France.
So Last year French have elected a new President who promised to get things better. But Opposition is very strong, I believe people don’t really want to change.
Kitem - I heard France has a very high unemployment rate, and your new President was going to work on that. I guess we’ll see…
The problem is everytime I start to see a canidate that I sort of like they open their mouth and spoil it for me.
Cant we just reject all these canidates and have them send in the next batch?
Jen - Sounds good. I just want to send the current administration packing, plus everyone in the House and Senate. They pretty much all suck.
ZS, you’d like my new bumper sticker from Cafe Press: “Don’t re-elect ANYONE!”
When I look at the candidates in any election, sometimes I feel on the edge of dispair. Can any president make a difference, no matter his or her good intentions? I wonder and certainly hope so.
Hey Zombie Slayer!
Wow–it’s amazing how great minds think alike: I just posted two very important posts on my blog regarding the United States money. Have you heard or watched the movie titled ZEITGEIST MOVIE? It addresses a couple of issues that neither of I buy into ( namely the 911 Conspiracy regarding how the Towers and Building 7 fell), but more importantly, it raises issues about our economy and who really controls it. It also brings up some subjects that I have never heard or read about before: namely that Bush signed a deal which basically dissolves our borders, thus creating what is being called the North American Union.
It also addresses the ‘micro chips’ that we, Americans, will be forced to carry around first in an I.D. card, and then there is, of course, talk of these chips being implanted into our bodies.
If you know anything about me, Zombie Slayer, it is that A) I am very intelligent and not guick to judge, and that I am a very free, “out of the box” thinker who doesn’t take anything at face value. I also don’t believe anything I read: I have to research it myself before I jump on the bandwagon. (The problem with the creation of the North American Union is that there doesn’t seem to be a ‘bandwagon’ to jump on! Why is Lou Dobbs the only person who reported this–and then the subject suspiciously disappeared from the public forum?) B) I don’t use my blog to write about political issues–unless I find them incredibly important. As I state in my “Z-Day…” post, I don’t agree with everything in the movie–but I do believe that much of what is stated about our economy and who controls the money IS true.
One major reason I posted the North American Union and Z-Day posts was so that YOU could read them and look into the material they discuss. I am very curious to get your take on these issues.
Great post, ZS. I feel really bad for both of our contries—just look at what’s in the running for leading them. Your candidates, well some of them are certainly more impressive than the bunch up here.
Frankly anyone who wants to pull us back from sticking our noses in everyones else’s business has my attention. I will say that as I was channel surfing on day a bunch of stock broker talking heads on CNBC were whining about how the Democrats, and Huckabee could ruin THEIR investments causing them to have to pay more taxes. They all agreed that they provided a vital service to the country moving money around. With China flexing both economic and military muscle and the embarrassing addiction to oil among other things we are pretty screwed. So I have my picks and I have one I despise but whoever gets the office will have a very difficult situation. But instead of a strong population that faced other worse crises we have a largely spoiled people that whines and is more than likely less informed on important matters than any generation before it.
Beach - Frankly anyone who wants to pull us back from sticking our noses in everyones else’s business has my attention.
Agreed!
I will say that as I was channel surfing on day a bunch of stock broker talking heads on CNBC were whining about how the Democrats, and Huckabee could ruin THEIR investments causing them to have to pay more taxes.
Apparently, the nation goes around them.
And yes, unfortunately, we’ve become spoiled whiners, so we’ll probably have to hit bottom before we solve matters.
BJ - Geez, I hope your candidates aren’t worse than ours. That’s a scary thought.
Bhakti - No. Haven’t watched it. But some things do bother me, like the computer chip for instance. That’s as Orwellian as it gets, and even worse, something Orwell himself never dreamed of.
I’ll drop by…
Scott - Yes, a President can. Unfortunately, that could be a bad thing too.
Tshsmom - I have to get me one of those.
Living in Michigan, all I can say is that it’s about fucking time other people figured out the economy is screwed.
Someone told me (yeah, I should look this up myself, but I figure you already know) that the billions Bush wants to give back in tax rebates (as if the country can afford that with our present deficit) will be coming from China and that China owns most of our debt already. That’s friggin’ scary! Why is none of the talking heads talking about this?
Kathleen - Seeing the news how GM got passed up by Toyota worldwide, and how Ford is under $7, Chrysler got bought out by Mercedes Benz, then now it’s independent again, you just have to wonder what’s going on with our car companies.
So many thousands of jobs are dependent on GM & Ford alone. Economists may look back at this as the catalyst for the economy stinking, or at least one of them.
Actually, we owe Japan more than we owe China. I like Japan. I hate China. The Japanese like us and treat us with respect. The Chinese are trying to poison us and pretty much hate us. But we do owe almost a trillion dollars in debt to China, and that’s a very, very bad thing.
