I’m not impressed by Obama

January 31st, 2008

Clinton won that debate.  Obama talked politics and avoided several key questions, and one answer flat out pissed me off.

When asked about illegal immigration, Obama said those who said we have a problem with illegal immigration are scapegoating.  Huh? Must be some nice sheltered world you live in, Barack, but in the real world, illegal immigration IS a serious problem.

I wasn’t impressed by Obama’s ideas on the economy nor health care.  He was very vague, sounding just like a trained politician instead of a guy with ideas.

The only thing I liked about Obama was he voted against the war in the beginning and stuck to his guns the whole time.  He didn’t flip flop when the polls said America no longer supports the war, as did most other politicians (except for Obama and Ron Paul, the guy I’ll most likely be supporting).

As a person, I have nothing against him.  He’s just not Presidential material.  He didn’t talk anything about Freedom, he has a bad record on Second Amendment Rights, and I just don’t think he has a good enough understanding of economics to fix the problems this country will face because of the uber-spending Bush administration.

On the other side of the fence, can’t stand McCain.  If that guy was running the country, we’d be in even more wars.  I still have to do research on Romney though.  Don’t know enough about him to make an informed decision one way or another.

We did not watch the debate. I appreciate your account. You said why Obama lost but now why Clinton won? What good thing did she say? Something really big is going to have to happen to win my confidence in any of the candidates.

i’m depressed already because no matter what we are going to be stuck with just another politician of the worst order. i’m sure of it. i’m such a cynic.

Granny Annie - She said some clever things. Keep in mind, this was only a Democrat debate. There’s no way I’m voting for Hillary because of other reasons. I don’t like her stands on too many Constitutional issues.

Lime - True. My guy is Ron Paul and there’s no way he’s winning. I’ll probably just write him in.

We have already seen way too much of them on our TV screens over here.

Look on the bright side … Bush is going.

Just my personal opinion but I rather like Obama. I have huge issues with Hillary that are far too many to even begin to list but lets just say that if she gets the nomination I’ll just stay home.
I like Obama because of what he inspires in me and many that are looking for some way out what is simply put the “red/blue state divide”. Yes, I have issues with his Second amendment record but I have a hard time believing Hillary would be any better and more than likely far worse.

As far as McCain is concerned, yeah the guy might try to invade everyone in the Middle East but I get the impression Romney is a sociopath given his ability to flip flop on any issue and still look a reporter in the face and say he has always been a conservative. Paul is still the better guy of this group but right now the country just isn’t ready for him.

    I’m with Lime.
Wall Street controls our political system. This needs to change!

I watched about 10 minutes of it and after it appeared to be more of a love fest I turned it off and wrote an article. I will have to take your word as to who won and who lost. In a debate with only two people, whoever won leaves the other person losing. I wish we could declare them both losers and just eliminate them from the election process altogether, but we can’t.

I am predicting that in the general electin McCain is going to win. If Obama gets the democratic nomination I think the country won’t support him overall. As Zombie says, he may seem like a nice enough guy, he just isn’t presidential material. Hillary has some ghosts in the closet still. If she gets the democratic nomination those ghosts are going to come back to haunt her and ruin her bid.

Besides, this war is making far too many people rich, Halliburton being one group, the banks loaning this country the money to finance it another. They don’t want it to end. So they will elect McCain because come hell or high water he is gonna stay until it is won, which it never will be.

On a side note, if people believe that this election isn’t already fixed, they should do some research on the subject. I have read that in Broward Country FL, which uses only touch screen voting machines with no paper trail, they had a voter turnout of 110%. Administrators cannot explain why more voters turned out to vote than are actually registered.

There have been numerous disputes already in other primaries as to vote shifting. In a test in one precinct a machine was tested on several instances by voting for various GOP candidates and the machine always recorded a vote for McCain.

The fix is in and we are just supposed to believe that we are making a decision as to who will be the next president.

Besides, the president is only supposed to sign into law those pieces of legislation which are in accordance with the Constitution, and then enforce those laws. It is not his duty to enact law, although he can make recommendations to Congress.

If people really want a change in direction in this country they need to work to change Congress. Get those long term incumbents out, like Teddy Kennedy who has been a U.S. Senator since 1962. They are the ones who make our laws, not the president.

Sorry Zombie, got on a rant….

Miladysa - I can’t wait. I just hope the next person can fix the economic mess Bush left us.

Beach - Hillary gets an F- from Gun Owners of America, so there’s no way I’m voting for her. I like Obama as a person, but illegal immigration is probably my #2 issue and Obama lost me on that issue. Paul most likely won’t win the Republican nomination, so I’ll just probably vote for the Libertarian guy or gal.

Tshsmom - Severely limit campaign contributions, including gifts. That would instantly fix that.

Neal - Yes, the Legislative Branch makes the laws, but the Executive Branch chooses which laws to enforce. One of the main problems with the Bush Administration is that it choose not to enforce the immigration laws, for instance.

Please post your feelings about all candidates as you have the time. I need to start doing my own research soon, and start watching the debates. I’ve liked what I’ve heard from Paul too, and maybe that’s where I lean right now. It seems to me that of four candidate, we’re stuck without a real leader for the next four years. I wish someone would stand up and shine. I can’t believe this is all we have to choose from.

Scott - I do like Paul. The only disagreement I have with Paul is I’m Pro-Choice. Other than that, I pretty much agree with him. I’m not worried about that issue though because he says it’s a States Rights issue, not a Federal issue anyways.

I know you had issues with Edwards, but I’m seriously depressed that he dropped out last week. Romney freaks me out - too Stepford-esque. McCain scares me. Hillary is too divisive (people hate her). That leaves Obama, in whom I’m not completely enamoured, but it doesn’t matter because I can’t vote until November anyway.
