To my fellow Americans before you vote

February 5th, 2008

Today is the Primaries election for us Californians.  Of course being 3rd Party, I can’t vote in this election, but I will be voting on the propositions.

I wanted to say keep a close eye on your candidates.  Consider who will most likely protect the Constitution.  The Bill of Rights was made for us, to help protect Rights that we were Born with, Rights that the government is always trying to take away from us.  Remember there are 10 Bill of Rights, not 9.  And don’t trust anyone who tells you that any Right should be a privilege.  Those people should be sent to Communist China where they belong.

Remember most importantly that the 1st Amendment guarantees you the Right to Speech, the Right to Protest, and Freedom of Religion.  Your religion, whatever it is, is none of anyone else’s business.  The 2nd Amendment guarantees you the Right to Bear Arms.  Keep a close eye on anyone who would infringe on that Right.  They cannot be trusted.  They are bad people.  And lastly, the 4th Amendment guarantees you protection from Search and Seizure.  This is something the current administration doesn’t believe in.  I have a HUGE problem with that.

I’m not going to tell you who to vote for.  But I do want to say when going to the ballot box, consider what I’m saying.  Don’t take ANY of your Freedoms for granted, or else they will be lost.  These are Rights that you were Born with, not something that anyone gives to you.  Do not let anyone take them from you.  After all, you know what you call someone without any freedoms? A slave.

You mean I shouldn’t just vote on whomever takes the most money from your generation and gives it to mine?

well said. now if we could get the entire nation to have primaries on the same day and not have the media report until every poll closes i’d be turning cartwheels.

Yes, How come the whole of America don’t vote on the same day?
In France, Voters vote the the President straight away, everybody who is eligible vote on the same day first round to partake the numerous candidates, then vote again 2 weeks later for the latest two finalists. I think it’s fair.

I wouldn’t give up my Rights. I couldn’t vote either. I’m third party. I’m Greenie-liberal. I believe in the environment and I believe in my freedoms.

JJ - No. You get Social Security. by the time I retire, it will be pennies on the dollar for my generation. You don’t need more money.

Lime - Agreed. I’m tired of seeing candidates drop out before they even reach California.

    Beach - Thanks! :)

Kitem - I have no idea. Whomever thought of this was smoking crack.

Kate - You liberal? Maybe the old 19th century definition of liberal.

“being 3rd Party, I can’t vote in this election”

ZS - do you think that you can explain this to me please? It totally blew my mind that you can’t vote and I need to understand why!

    Thanks :]

Miladysa - It’s a Primary election. In those elections, Democrats get to vote for whom they think will be the best Democrat to represent their party in the General election. Likewise, Republicans get to vote for whom they think will be the best Republican to represent their party in the General election. I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican so I have no say in either of their party choices.

It’s slightly different from your Parliamentary system.

I’m totally with Lime! I’d also add that I’d like to see caucuses abolished in favor of a primary election.

MN actually gave 15% of the vote to Paul. Not bad considering Huckabee and McCain only got 20%. ;)

LOVE the new site–less depressing than all the black and grey of the old one. Didn’t know that you were color-blind…my little bro has the same issue. Did you know that each of your parents had to have the gene for you to inherit it? It goes mainly on the female side, since the Y chromosome doesn’t have the site (the missing part that makes a Y an X).

I hear you on the issues. I’m not either party (well, being Canadian–duh) but tend to be quite liberal. Not that there are any true liberals anywhere these days.

Paul took second place with 25% of the vote, while Romney won with 38% in MT. I expected Paul to do rather well up here, but with the excess evangelicals I expected Huckabee to win. I don’t like Romney, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was no Democratic Primary, and I couldn’t vote either way. :(

Tshsmom - That’s because MN’s got a lot of intelligent people. It’s just too bad they have bad taste in football teams. ;)

I agree. We should have them all on the same day. Half the people dropped out before they reached California.

Bridget - Thanks! Yeah, I know a little about the genetics of it. I’m all over the map so I could never find a party I like.

Courtney - Yeah, I don’t Romney either. Really don’t like McCain. I was hoping Paul would do better in the election, but no luck. :(

I would appreciate your breakdown on how the candidates measure up to your criteria, Zombie. Seriously.

Scott - It’s actually in the works. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it in time before Super Tuesday. I’ll just have to do the remaining ones. I should have it done this weekend.

Hey ZS great post. Was there record turnout in your area?

  17. comment number 17 by: Miladysa

So do you have to be a member of a political party to vote then?

All this fuss - why don’t they just do it quietly? lol

  18. comment number 18 by: The Zombieslayer

    Tweety - Yeah, it is.

Ben - Thanks. Yes, it was huge. I don’t know if it was a record but it was huge.

Miladysa - Yes. You can only vote in your political party. Except in some states, there are what’s called an “open primary” where you can vote one vote in any political party. California has a closed primary where you have to be a member of that party to vote.
