Is the Daily Kos a site for nutcases?
March 11th, 2008I’ve never been to the site Daily Kos before and just happened by and now, I’m realizing they’re a bunch of nutcases. This Kos guy is convinced Geraldine Ferraro, former Democratic VP Candidate, is a racist. Why? She said this back in 1988:
…if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race (running for President).
Heaven forbid! She said something taken completely out of context! She must be in the KKK!
So Kos goes on to call her a “bona fide racist.”
Well, my friends, I too am a bona fide racist. One day, I went to see my friend M who I haven’t seen in years. I thought someone else was M and called out his name. It was some other dude. So I finally saw M and told him the story and how “all white people look the same to me.” He laughed. That makes me a bona fide racist, right?
Or, my friend O and I were talking about Obama. She said “I’m not going to vote for that Negro.” Is she a bona fide racist too? Or probably in Kos’ case, Kos would call her a bona fide Uncle Tom (or bona fide Aunt Tamara?)
One day, I grabbed one of D’s beers from his fridge. As I was grabbing one, he yelled out “grab me one too, Colored Kid!” Now, D is definitely racist, right? A bona fide racist. Of course, I grabbed him one because he’s my friend, but then as a bona fide racist, I said “here’s your beer, Whitey.” Both of us, bona fide racists.
Now Kos is calling for Hillary Clinton to break ties with Ferraro because that bona fide racist Geraldine Ferraro is hurting her campaign for what she said in 1988. That’s funny. Only in 1986, Al Gore’s wife was warning white parents about black rappers making passes at their white daughters, calling for records made by homosexuals to be labeled as such (don’t want to give heterosexual white kids any ideas about turning gay, now would we?), and Al Gore himself called homosexuals “abnormal.” Yet, Al Gore is Kos’ hero. Go figure.
How can anyone who votes Dem (the Daily Kooks) not se racism running rampant through their party?
They have a KKK member in the Senate. Unbelievable.
First off… racism isn’t just present in singular, overt acts by one person toward another. It can be more subtly present in a person’s general world view.
That said, I think Ferraro has a point. I was just thinking this the other day before I saw her article. It is still much more socially acceptable to be critical of women and homosexuals than it is racial minorities. Maybe the media are pulling punches for fear of being called racist. However, some of the coverage of Clinton has been overtly sexist (calling candidates MRS. Clinton and Senator Obama for instance is a snipe against her IMHO), the overblown “crying” incident in NH (Bush admitted to crying about certain things, Brett Farvre cried last week and nobody cared), and nobody seems to care.
Sage - From experience, I’ve gotten just as much or more racism from Democrats than Republicans. Democrats seem to be obsessed with race. Republicans tend to want to look past race and move on into the future where race isn’t an issue.
We actually had one President who was a KKK sympathizer. It was Woodrow Wilson. Guess which party he was.
I’m looking forward to the day when we’re judged on the content of our character instead of our skin color or how we look.
Ok. I have never heard that listening to gay people sing or being around gay people can make another person gay so who ever this lady is she has her facts all screwed up. LOL… To be honest I dont care if a person is white, black, purple or pink or blue for that matter. I like most people.
Oh, and as for your examples - personal interactions between people who know eachother well and who have a mutual understanding really aren’t good examples in this case. Me, John, and Donna routinely throw around racial epitets toward each other (she calls us Cracker and we refer to her as our Concubine). This is mutually understood humor. I would NEVER think of saying such a thing to someone I don’t know. But yes, the Daily Kos is blowing this out of proportion.
Tweety - She was head of the PMRC, which was an organization that tried to get music censored. The warning labels you see on records now were the compromise. She did a lot of race baiting and anti-homosexual talk, but all of a sudden, it was all forgiven when her husband ran for Vice President. Amazing how short people’s memories are.
Laura - Ferraro does have a point. But as a white person, she’s not permitted to say anything according to political correctness. She has essentially been censored by the P.C. police.
Interesting you bring up Bush crying. That needs to be brought up as a double standard. Favre crying I’m ok with because he doesn’t have his finger on “the button.” But how come Bush crying we didn’t hear more about by the media?
Also agreed on the racism vs sexism thing. It’s much safer to be sexist than racist, especially in the public eye. Now, in the city, it’s safer to be sexist than homophobic. In the country, it’s safer to be homophobic than sexist. Homophobia vs racism, now that’s not as clear cut.
And agreed on personal examples. I was just using them more for humor.
What the h*@& is their problem?!
If someone of my generation refers to someone as ‘coloured’ they really mean no offence - when I was a child it was a polite term to use.
Same as ‘old lady’ - an elderly lady would be referred to as an ‘old lady’. I heard of someone being disciplined at work because they said to a member of staff that an ‘old lady’ was in reception. ‘Old lady’ is not acceptable - it has to be ’senior citizen’. If anyone calls me a senior citizen when I am an old lady I will tan their backside!
Ferraro was absolutely right. No question. If he was white he wouldn’t have the huge black turn out, he might still have a chance but he would not be winning against the Clinton machine. I mean hope and change won’t get you far.
And
for the record
Clinton wouldn’t be where she is if she wasn’t married to Bill, all things considered she’d probably be in jail.
Ya gotta shake your head, right ZS? It’s amazing what passes for PC-ness.
p.s. Now that I”m 56, and with family patterns probably will last till my 90s, anyone can call me anything they want.
Of course I’ll whump them if I don’t like it (heh heh heh)!!
There should be warning labels on boy band cds: “If you’re a dude and you’re buying this, beware you may get your ass kicked.”
Boy, somebody’s a little judgmental!
So it’s alright to hate sexual orientation, and that’s okay, but you can’t hate somebody’s color?
Everyone has an opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. As long as you don’t hurt anyone, you can have your opinion.
Those people say gay people go to Hell and racist people go to Heaven.
Miladysa - Exactly. I find the “softer” words even more insulting.
Sage - Well her fault is that she is white and I guess white folks are not supposed to have opinions. Now, is that not racism?
Bridget - Political correctness is simply censorship. That’s why I hate it so much.
Skeletor - My friend N (a FOB) was saying how he loved Michael Bolton’s covers and my buddy B quickly interrupted and said “if you have one Michael Bolton album, I’ll kick your ass.” ‘Twas classic.
Kate - That’s the thing. Those folks are just confused, but then they’re holier than thou about it. Makes no sense.
Is the Daily Kos a site for nutcases?
Short answer, yes.
see above answer, I check them regularly because I want to see if there are people out there that are that crazy. It is sad and scary to see that there are and that is just one reason out of about a million that I will probably never be able to bring myself to vote democratic.
