If I were running this country

May 11th, 2008

Lots of people like to bitch, but when asked what they’d do if they were running this country, they’d say “umm…”

This is what I’d do if I were running this country:

1) Work on the energy crisis now. Not later, but now. People talk about getting out of Iraq, but have no solution for the oil crisis. Well folks, if we don’t have an alternative, we have no choice. You want us out of Iraq? Here’s what I’d do.

2) That said, pull us out of Iraq. HUGE waste of both American lives and money. It’s the main cause of our financial problems right now.

3) Speaking of economics, enact a huge tariff on Chinese goods. You want cheap crap? Fine. Buy it from Mexico instead. Let’s build a Middle-Class in Mexico. While China has nukes pointed at us, screw China.

4) All children will have to learn all 10 Bill of Rights, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. It’s time we started teaching Civics again. I’m tired of talking to Americans about Freedom and they have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m tired of explaining the difference between a Right and a Privilege, and explaining that Rights are something you’re born with, not something the government gives you.

5) Get rid of the Patriot Act. Legalize pot. Legalize prostitution. Get rid of 99% of gun laws. And start looking at other laws that encroach on our Freedoms and get rid of them. I’m sure I can find hundreds. Actually, screw it. I’ll just hire a bunch of Libertarians to look over our laws and see what we can do away with. We got too many freaking laws in this country. I’m tired of people looking over my shoulder and telling me I can’t do this or can’t do that. Buzz off.

6) Cut government spending. I’ll look at ways we can cut spending because whether you like it or not, we need to balance the budget. If Bill Clinton could do it, so can I.

That’s enough for now. It’s Mother’s Day and I have to take Mrs. Z and Junior out. It’s too nice of a day to be inside on this laptop. I already practiced guitar for two hours and it’s 12:20 PM, Junior’s playing videogames and Mrs. Z is changed and ready to go.

Happy Mother’s Day, folks. If you haven’t already, call your mother if she’s still alive. If she’s not, my condolenses, but give some appreciation for some mother out there who doesn’t get enough appreciation.

“All children will have to learn all 10 Bill of Rights, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence.”

I knew education has taken a serious downturn (thanks, ever-so-much, No Child Left Behind), but kids really don’t have to learn that anymore? I couldn’t have graduated middle or high school if I didn’t know those.

ending the oil crisis doesn’t work for the ppl who are getting their pockets nicely lined as a result. and if you were in a position to implement your plan, you would need your gun all the time cuz they would sharely be looking to take you out.

you are sooo right about #4.

eh. i don’t know about legalizing pot. i think they would get greedy and dilute its potency.

have a great day with your family. and thanks for the greetings!

Thanks for mother’s day, it’s not yet the day in France.
“It’s time we started teaching Civics again.” Our new president implemented that last year when he came to power: all the teachers wer grumbling and not happy about that, they just didn’t want to teach that subject, they say it was not their job. All of this because President is right wing, teachers are leftist.

Have a fun day with Mrs Z and Jnr :-D

WE need to get out of this war but I shudder to think how much longer it will go on. Don’t forget our families are spilling their blood out there with your own.

#4 is a winner. If we understand the value of our country and the principals on which it was founded, we could work more closely with each other to solve the rest of the problems. So many are busy redefiing the United States they forget it already defined. Other concepts are available in other countries.

What War? has there been a war?
Bush says its Indian Middle Class with its increased demand for a better quality of food, & whose population is more than that of entire American population put together, that is responsible for inflation.
Hehehe… he says out EATING is responsible for global price rise!
    Slay him Zombieslayer!

Courtney - That should be #7 - get rid of that stupid No Child Gets Ahead act.

Namaste - It’s for taking the criminal aspect out of it.

Kitem - France has a fascinating history and students better be studying French Civics.

Miladysa - Oh, I’m well aware, as are several other of our allies.

Lime - As I told Courtney, it would be #7.

Granny - Yes, I love our principles, but it seems too many Americans are ignorant about them.

Mona - Ah, now Bush is blaming India while before he was the one pushing outsourcing so heavily? Yet another reason he’s a hypocrite.

Your views are always refreshing and remind me that there are other people in the world like me. People who refuse to be spoon-fed there beliefs, and can not live with blinders on. So you have to do something, think about it, talk about it, write about it… do something… anything to stand up for what you know is right.

Have you ever considered writing something longer then a blog, and publishing? Or maybe working with a writer who could really appreciate your knowledge and views? :D

Let me know when your ready to work on something bigger, I have some great ideas and I could use a sharp mind like yours kiddo :)

I’m with Courtney, I remember memorising the Preamble, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. I know my niece had to memorise The Gettysburg Address at some point in the past five or so years…I just don’t know if they really understand, though.

I remember reading Animal Farm in the 8th grade, but wouldn’t claim that I understood it, even after it was explained.

Rock on dude. Slayer for president and I mean it.

    Clothosfate - Thanks.

I’ve written 2 books. One will be published post-posthumously and the other one I had a lot of trouble publishing. Most publishing houses don’t want to take a chance on some unknown’s fiction. Maybe I should go non-fiction.

Kathleen - Animal Farm in a nutshell - You have good people with good ideas that are exploited by bad people full of greed and selfishness. Well, the good people with good ideas take over by violent means and become just like the people they took over.

Beach - Congress is more my style. I don’t want to be in the spotlight. That’s why I should have really been a bass player and not a lead guitarist. And I don’t want that much power. And I got too many skeletons in the closet. Thanks though.

I’m not sure about Iraq, but agree with every word you had there otherwise.

    Beach Bum’s got a good idea there…..

  16. comment number 16 by: tshsmom

Totally agree!! We need politicians that are willing to put the Constitution FIRST!

didn’t know if you knew this.

Bridget - Beach Bum has a lot of good ideas. Politically, we see eye to eye on a lot of issues.

    Tshsmom - Exactly!

Sage - Thanks. When the GOA sends their postcards, I’ll be sure to send them in.

  19. comment number 19 by: Kathleen

Oops, sorry…yeah, I understand it now…not sure I got it back then.

  20. comment number 20 by: The Zombieslayer

Kathleen - Cool. It was a good book, but I didn’t get it until college.

  21. comment number 21 by: Raemius

Agree with pretty well all of that.
