Can we get 2 more candidates, please?
May 28th, 2008You know what Obama and McCain have in common? I won’t vote for either of them. They’re both morons.
That concentration camp gaffe the other day by Obama was downright silly. Get your history straight, Barack. Ok, fine, I’ll give you that his mind slipped and he named the wrong concentration camp. But he’s done it on more than once occasion. What this does is it shows how poor Obama’s knowledge of History is.
The Red Army never gets enough credit from Americans when it comes to WWII. We pretty much can take credit for defeating the Japanese. That’s a given. But if you had to name the one country that deserves the most credit for defeating the Nazis, it would be the Soviet Union. Yes, them, not us. And certainly not Britain or France.
It was the Red Army that liberated Auschwitz. I’m not accusing Obama of lying, but rather of his poor knowledge of history. And we want this guy running this country? The least he could do is give me a job as a fact checker. Of course, he wouldn’t do that because I’ll expose him to be just as dumb as our current President.

I can’t stand McCain either. His record on guns and illegal aliens is every bit as bad as Obama, and in some cases worse. It was McCain who tried to get the Amnesty bill passed. It was McCain who tried to get a lot of the anti-gun bills through the Senate, working hand and hand with the worst of the Democrats. And now, he has the audacity to speak before the NRA and say he’s going to be better than Obama?
It’s like one of those drunk relatives who you kicked out before for wrecking your house and suddenly, a year later, they show up again and promise to behave. No. Get lost and stay lost.

McCain has one serious edge in my book over Obama. If there’s anything he’s good at, it’s at cutting pork. We need more pork cut, and McCain has been one of the best politicians at exposing needless spending and trying to eliminate it.
But it will all be for naught though. McCain is for the Iraq War, and when it comes to needless spending, that stupid war takes the cake. Let’s not forget the more than 4000 American lives already lost. For what? You tell me. I’m tired of worrying about my friends whenever they get shipped there.

So I’m voting Third Party once again. Obama and McCain aren’t worthy of my vote. When it comes to real issues like balancing the budget, doing something about the deficit, or deciding which way America will go with energy, someone like Ron Paul had more knowledge than both of them put together on this issues. At least we do have one thing to look forward to though - the next President will NOT be a Clinton or a Bush.
mccain will not get my vote for all the reasons you outline and others. i have real concerns about obama and gun issues. the single thing that might lead me to vote for obama over a third party candidate is that i think he might be able to repair some of the damage done by that idiot dubya in our foreign relations. we are sorely in need of someone who can demonstrate some respect for the concept that we have to be able to “work well with others” and not go off half-cocked and keeping only his own counsel. mccain is going to continue acting on his own without regard to the rest of the world. not that long ago we had the good will of the world, we have squandered it with the likes of dubya.
so the idealist in me wants to say screw it, neither one of them is worth a bucket of spit. the realist in me says one of these two will be the leader, who is going to damage us least. i think mccain will further entrench the expanded powers of the executive branch and he is undoubtedly a hothead. I also think he doesn’t like to listen to anyone but himself. We see what expanded executive power under the yoke of a man too proud to take advice has gotten us. I’m somewhat inclined to take more of a chance on a more cool-headed type who considers alternate viewpoints. though there are things that disturb me enough about obama that i don’t know if I can bring myself to pull that lever either. All i know is it won’t be mccain.
That choice has been disturbing me too but unfortunately…sheesh. Here is no better but that’s no excuse!
Did you see the Castro vote thing?? Unreal. Agree totally with you about McCain, and after the current situation, it’d take a lot of armed intervention before I’d vote for that party. Same with the ‘north of 60′ picture.
Zombieslayer for Prez!!!
While I’m still supporting Obama I must admit to a growing fatigue over all the minor crap that the press and candidates seem to concentrate on. And a strong urge to puke whenever Hillary come son TV. I feel a growing urge just not to watch news anymore until September. I’ve got my vacation coming soon and after a week decompressing I might feel different.
Good points, everyone, but I’m going to have to go with my conscience. I’m pretty sure one of the Third Parties can come up with someone I can stomach on issues like the deficit, energy, foreign relations, illegal immigration, and protecting the Constitution. We’ll see though.
So far, I’ve profiled Bob Barr, a possible Libertarian candidate. I’ll keep looking. I’ll profile the Green candidate and Reform too if there is one. There will probably be a Natural Law as well.
Yes, Bush has done a lot of damage with foreign relations, but then we got Obama who strikes me as wet behind the ears and McCain who’s just a plain a-hole. Neither one of them would be much of an improvement.
I’d take a good look at Ron Paul if I were you. I’m drawing a blank right now, but there was an important issue–and it might well be energy–where Paul has shown a disturbing voting trend. I’ve said a thousand times: the key issue in this election is energy. I won’t vote Republican because A) I don’t like McCain and B) he represents the same old policies when it comes to Iraq and foreign relations. I like the idea that he would cut spending, but you are right, spending in Iraq eclipses the rest of it combined. Obama might end up getting my vote by default.
Yeah, I may be sitting this one out… none of the above. I must admit, it will probably be fun filling the role of “loyal opposition,” like it was back in the ’80s. I’ve got the bumper stickers ready to go…
I agree… this one’s about energy and resources… I think that’s probably why the US is in Iraq and will be, even if Obama is our man… in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the US has bases there for the remainder of our lifetime… it was a strategic move.
I think you’re barking up the wrong tree with BHO and his ignorance of history… while I share your concern, practically everyone under the age of 40 probably could care less about his ignorance and provincialism. He’s good looking and well-spoken, when he chooses the venue and the subject matter. His handlers will see to it that he speaks off-the-cuff as little as possible.
AMEN to that!!
I’ve started a write-in campaign. I started with an email, and will soon write a post about it. So far, the response has been amazing!
We all need to go out and vote on election day, to show “the powers that be” that we’re not apathetic. We all need to vote for someone that we truly believe in, whether they’re an “official” candidate or not. Will our candidate win? No; but if enough of us vote our conscience, we’ll send a huge message to the corrupt 2-party system!
Tshsmom - Ping me when that post is up. I’ll be out all day today but should be back online later on tonight.
Bo - Yeah, as painful to admit, that may be true. Obama does seem very wet behind the ears when it comes to anything political, and not sure how well he’d do with foreign affairs.
He talks about pulling us out of Iraq, but I really think only Ron Paul would have gotten us out. But energy and resources are the 2 most important issues, even though they’re the most dry and boring issues, we have to face them.
Scott - Yeah, it was Paul who I’ve been supporting. I’m very conservative when it comes to economics and Paul is by far the most conservative. Also, very importantly to me, Paul would be the best person at defending the Constitution. Not to crazy about our last Presidents on those matters.
And indeed, energy needs to be addressed. Now, not later.
I hate to say it but you all sound like a bunch of crybabies, you do realize your just throwing your vote away voting 3rd party. It will take a earth changing moment for a 3rd party (like a nuke going off in DC, Chicago, LA, NYC, etc) to ever get more than 5% of the vote in this country. I may not like McCain but Obama downright scares me with his inexperience and I don’t think McCain is as bad as everyone on here says he is (remember, for what it matters to NYT did endorse him before doing a shitty hit piece on him two months later). To be fair at my core I’m libertarian outside of foreign policy. You guys want change, get into one of the two parties and try and work with them and get your ideas in. You all have great ideas and are motivated (a quality lacking in most Americans today) and I respect that. But going third party is a waste on all your great energy you could be getting and finding people that are like minded in the party. And ZS I know McCain has swallowed the global warming bs but his plan includes 100 nuke plants which we DESPERATELY need. I am encouraged at the Ron Paul movement (as long as their not 9/11 truthers) because they are a motivated bunch for the party but they want to take their ball and go home if they don’t get their way. Paul does have some good points and well he has some psychotic points (I question if the guy is mentally stable at times) but please don’t go third party on us, come into the party and try and change us for the better.
I’m damn sure with you.
They both suck
but a 3rd party vote might be a vote for Obama
What worries me is the 2 years he’ll have with a dominate house and senate
can you imagine the pork???????????
ZS- Thanks a bunch for the Akismet tip… it’s working well. As soon as I started up, the SPAM was rolling in, but it’s stopped.
The upgrade was reeeaally easy. Here are the steps from WordPress:
1. Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified.
2. Upload the new files.
3. Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.
Afterwards, I simply cut and pasted my old style sheet and sidebar.php into the style editor and voila!
Ben, you’ll NEVER see change by working within the 2-party system. It’s too corrupt. The only way the parties will ever wake up is if we don’t vote for their candidates.
tshsmom, its comments like that that make me want to change it because it really isn’t, espically at the local level. Obviously I’m not going to be tackleing DC republicans any time soon but I’m trying to get a guy in as a state rep here in Edina that can start a change. And the way to wake the parties up is to vote for someone and hold them accountable, you’d be surprised what letters can do. They saved us from that disasterous immigration bill last year.
Ben - Just because I don’t like McCain doesn’t mean I’d abandon the Republican Party. There are several people in the Republican Party I really admire, and have sent them money to help them get elected (or keep them in office). I can’t stand McCain. But I’m not condemning the whole party.
Tshsmom - There are 2 main reasons I vote 3rd Party:
1) I don’t believe in the lesser of 2 evils. I’m a non-compromise guy.
2) When a 3rd Party picks up steam, the main two parties “adopt” successful parts of their platform.
So they’re both win/win.
Bo - Thanks. I’ll do it this weekend.
Sage - In American politics, when a President starts to suck, they lose the House and Senate in the next 2 years. Obama might be the best thing that could happen to this country because he’d push Republicans into being real Republicans again. Yes, we’ll suffer for 2 years. But then Obama will be a lame duck for 2 years where nothing gets done (which is usually the best thing for the country - I’m in favor of a President doing as little as possible, for the less they do, the better). Then in four years, hopefully we’ll get a Republican who is Pro-Constitution, a true Fiscal Conservative, and will enforce the borders.
All - Don’t be surprised if in 2012, you see a 3rd Party with more than 10% of the vote. Remember Ross Perot? When both parties start to suck, there’s a vacuum. I’m not saying it will happen. I’m just saying don’t be surprised if it does.
Well i don’t expect a saint to be the president of usa. Little imperfection will always be there.
The formal persident, though he had a bad case of infidility, the economic did kindda well.
However the present one sucks i must say. I like him more as a commedian though.
Armaments and other supplies sent mainly by British arctic convoys to Russia during WW2, Curbed the the advancing German army on the eastern front. Without this happening the Russians would have been overwhelmed.
Although I was fortunate to miss this episode of WW2, the first ship I served on; The Battleship HMS King George V, and other RN Ships had previously been involved on many occasions escorting merchant vessels to ports in Russia; such as Leningrad and Murmansk. Many lives were lost in these freezing waters from the sinking of many of these ships over several years by German submarines. However, the biggest ‘Crunch’ came when The’King George V rammed and sank the tribal class destroyer HMS Punjabi in poor visibility (This was during the early days of Radar)Only about twenty British sailors survived the freezing waters together with the ships cat named ‘Punjabi’, That lucky pussy lived a long and indulgent life aboard the K G V before being retired ashore.
So hoping this story has a happy ending for all pussy lovers out there. ta ta for now, have a pleasant day. Vest.
Quiz Question. What was the name of the WW2 US Navy ship which later in its travels was sunk by a British Navy Submarine.
Clue; it was named twice.
No takers, thought so.

The ARA General Belgrano, Commanded by its capitano Hector Bonzohad was formerly the USS Phoenix Laid down 1935 and laid up in 1946 then sold to the Argentine Govt in 1951.Its so called controversial sinking by anti British supporters mainly the castanet clangers, the trumpet blowing Spaniards and bull stabbing picadors, plus the mighty US of A (Another mob of serial invaders, like KOREA,VIETNAM,GRENADA and IRAQ etc)
Were a bit miffed when told that landing an invasion force of fouteen thousand troops in the British possession of the falkland islands was an act of war. So the outcome came about that the Brits sent them packing with a small contingent of a few hundred military and limited Air power.
(And a nuclear SUB)This was done with the minimum of fuss by the British; a former traditional enemy of the Spanish Greaseo’s and their weak kneed descendants.
Oh and the sinking of The destroyer H M S Sheffield and part destruction of sister ship Glamorgan by Argie controlled french nato Excocet Missiles was ok’d by the Argentine govt.
The outcome in the washup proved the Argies when it came to facing their adversaries on equal terms, they could only be described as a bunch of gutless Wimps.

Vest - Was offline the past few days. Good piece of trivia. Did not know that. Plus, this new blog doesn’t get a tenth of the traffic the last one did.
Good info. I’ve actually always wondered how that war affected English and French relations, for it was the French who was selling Argentina Excocet Missiles.
Tchoden - Yes, he does suck. He’s the main cause of our financial problems right now. His spending is as bad as a former President we had named Jimmy Carter.
