What will they try to ban next?

August 22nd, 2008

There’s one in every group.  The “holier than thou, my kids can do no wrong and your kids are demons” mother.  You know her.  You’ve dealt with her.  You try to avoid her.

Unfortunately, those numbers add up because it’s such a large group.  And they vote.

What will they try to ban next? In the 80s, it was Heavy Metal, Dungeons and Dragons, and Rap music.  They even had a political voice - Tipper Gore.  Gore wanted to ban it all.  Heavy Metal was causing your children to kill themselves.  Rap was making kids have sex (because we all know teenagers NEVER thought about sex before Rap music was invented).  And Dungeons and Dragons, that was “a pathway to Satanism.”  The scary thing is, I’m not making this up.  She even wanted labeling for homosexuality.  I love how today’s Democrats try to slip that one under the rug.

In the 90s, it was guns.  Yes, the Million Mom March.  Ban guns.  Never mind that pesky little thing called the Constitution.  That was written by men with wigs.  If it can save just one child.  Of course, they were exposed making up statistics, but never mind facts when you can have emotion.

In the 00s? It may be a long shot, but I’m guessing the Nintendo Wii.

I’m waiting for it to happen.  A kid is playing his Wii, standing up and doing maneuvers, then slips and hits his head on the glass table and dies.

Never mind the fact that this particular mother never spent ANY time with that kid, fed him nothing but junk food while she told him to shut up and leave her alone because he was disturbing her reality tv show so that’s why she bought him the Wii in the first place.

Soon, you get the lawyers in.  Lawyers see dollar signs whenever an accident happens, no matter how bizarre or unlikely it is.  The lawyers contact the press.  The press makes mountains out of molehills.  Soon, another wife of a Senator makes it her pet cause and we get Congressional Hearings.  Another “Mothers Against” group forms, because there are always those mothers out there who think they’re not only smarter and more experienced than everyone else, they speak for ALL parents, and anyone who disagrees be damned.

Who cares about Freedom? Who cares about Individual Choice? Who cares about Fact? If it can save just one child…

Is China cheating?

August 16th, 2008

Your thoughts?

I’d love to hear them.

I personally think yes.  I watched only one night.  Several of us went over to a friend’s house and watched women’s gymnastics and men’s swimming.  Well, you can’t cheat in swimming because it’s obvious who wins.  However, gymnastics, I saw some pretty low scores for the Americans and the Romanians while high, undeserved scores for the Chinese.  I heard it was all Olympics long, but I only watched one night.

What was interesting was hearing Nadia Comaneci’s old coach trying not to use the c-word.  You could tell it was paining him not to say it.  Those scores just didn’t seem right, was about as far as he went.

Why is that Eurotrash in my fashion mag?

August 11th, 2008

Ok.  I read women’s fashions magazines.  No, I’m not gay (not that there’s anything wrong with it), but I think some of the models are hot, especially the ones for Bebe, Guess, and a few others, names escape me right now but I’ll think of them.

Some of the girls at work have them laying around and while I got some automated crap going on, I get up and walk around the building and talk to the girls and read their fashion mags.  It’s just something I do.

I am getting sick of seeing the Beckhams.  I can’t stand David or Posh Spice.  They annoy the hell out of me.  Why? I don’t know.  I don’t care.  It’s maybe because I see them too much and they look like both of them need a real good poo poo.  Posh Spice is a talentless ass clown, almost as bad as Michael Bolton, and David, well, he looks like a zombie already.  The only thing worse than an annoying celebrity is an annoying celebrity couple.

So, from the other blog, I’m bringing something back.  It’s 2008 now, 3 years later.  Which celebrities would you most like to see eaten by zombies?

Me - David and Victoria Beckham, the Olson Twins, Paris Hilton, Bono (I’m really getting sick of Bono), Jessica Simpson, Jessica Simpson’s father, and Kobe Bryant.

There’s my list.  What’s yours?

Are the Democrats really this stupid?

August 10th, 2008

I picked up the Sunday paper today and found the new Democratic platform, and all l can say is - “are the Democrats really this stupid?”

You can’t be in a better situation.  You have this election handed to you on a silver platter.  The economy is in shambles.  You have a President in there now who’s the worst President since Jimmy Carter (yes, Carter was worse for those with bad memories).

Instead, the Democrats are too stupid to focus on real issues and are doing about the worst things you can possibly do.

Right on top of the platform - immigration reform, and more gun control.  We do NOT need immigration reform.  We need to enforce the laws on the book and send illegals back to where they came from.  Illegals are a drain on the economy, undercut the working class, fill up our jails, and their kids bring down our test scores, join gangs, and get pregnant.

We don’t need amnesty.  If you want this nation to be a 3rd World country, vote Democrat.

The 2nd thing is more gun control.  WTF?! That’s the last thing we should be focusing on right now.  So that means for me, once again opening up the financial war chest and sending max contributions to people running for Congress and the Senate who believe in this thing called the Constitution.  You can’t trust the Democrats to do that, because they’d rather play politics.

I take back the 10 points I said.  If Obama even wins, he’ll be a lame duck President by the 2nd half of his first term.

Now, if the Democrats had any brains, they would have nominated Jim Webb from Virginia, who turned down a VP offer from Obama recently.  Webb should be running this country.

Here’s what Obama should be doing:

1) Drop the amnesty crap.  Realize that American citizens and LEGAL immigrants come first.

2) Focus on the economy.  Actually, this should be #1 but I said that because it’s at the top of the Democratic platform.  We need to get rid of the tax breaks for outsourcing and slow down globalization.  Globalization is great for the Upper Class, but is quickly destroying the Middle Class in this country.

3) Drop any mention of gun control.  Webb has it right.  But of course, Webb’s a tough guy.  Obama’s got a glass jaw and thinks it’s the government’s job to do EVERYTHING, because people can’t be trusted to make their own choices.

It’s the economy, stupid.  How many times do I have to say that? The economy.  That should be the #1 priority.

Between Obama and McCain, I can’t stand either of them.  It’s a shame that that’s the best we could do.  Looks like another 3rd Party vote for me.

We had to pay the Piper

August 4th, 2008

The economy’s in the toilet.  Saw this one coming and blogged about it years ago.  You can only export jobs faster than you create them for so long before things fall apart.  The Middle Class has been taxed to death, and has been either unemployed or underemployed.

The Working Class and Family Farmers have been undercut by illegal aliens.  So you got three groups of taxpaying Americans who are hurting.  And as you already know, too much manufacturing has been sent overseas.  No wonder the economy stinks.

People who are pro-outsourcing argue that it will build up economies elsewhere so in the long run, it will help America.  That’s fine and dandy on paper, but I’d like to send their jobs overseas, then watch them scramble for months being unemployed trying to figure out how to make ends meet.

The other thing people like to point out is that Americans have a lot of credit card debt.  Well, being unemployed will do that to you.  When you lose your job, you still have to pay bills.  The bills don’t stop and wait for you to find a job.  Sure, you can point at Joe Yuppie showing that he has thousands of dollars of crap he doesn’t need, but the fact of the matter is that our unemployment rate is simply too high, and on top of that, too many Americans are underemployed.

So, a recession may be around the corner.  Or we might be in one.  We’re simply stretched too thin.

A few posts ago, I said I’m betting on America.  That’s a long term bet.  12k for the Dow is still a good buy.  I was on vacation when it dipped below 11k, but I would have bought more.

We’re just too inventive as a nation to be held back for long.  But in the short term, we’re in very bad shape.  So bad in fact I’m predicting Obama wins by 10 percentage points, not because he’s the best candidate we got, but because his main contender is a Republican and the economy sucks.
