Why I vote 3rd Party

September 18th, 2008

I vote for the best possible candidate. Usually, it’s not the Democrat or Republican and I personally lean closer to Libertarian, although I’m not a Libertarian either.

I believe in the Constitution. I only became a “gun nut” when upper-middle class white people from the suburbs made it their issue to ban guns, thus, trying to take out the Second Amendment from the Constitution.

Granted upper-middle class white people from the suburbs can call the police and the police will come rescue them, because that’s what police do (that is, protect upper-middle class white people in the suburbs). Me personally, if someone broke into my house, the absolute last people I’d call are the police. Don’t want to get shot in my own house.

I became a First Amendment activist when Tipper Gore was trying to get Heavy Metal and Rap banned (those Tipper stickers were a compromise, something Democrats conveniently forget). Democrats also like to conveniently forget that Tipper Gore hated homosexuals and used race baiting when complaining about Rap music.

OK, that’s two things against the Democrats, but what about the Republicans? Well, I’ll say it again. George W Bush is the worst President since Jimmy Carter. When it comes to Constitutional issues, he may be the worst we’ve ever had. He’s a Republican.

There you go. That’s why I vote 3rd Party.

Wasted Vote

“But isn’t a vote for a 3rd Party a wasted vote?”

No. The only wasted vote is the guy who sits at home and watches the idiot box all day instead of voting. That’s a wasted vote.

Here’s a real good quote from John T Reed, a guy I respect greatly:

“You vote only for the platform to send a message to the two major parties. For example, in 1992, the big third-party candidate, Ross Perot, wanted to balance the budget. He got 19% of the vote, including mine. And guess what we got a year or two later under Bill Clinton? A balanced budget.”

There you go. Now you see a 3rd Party vote is not wasted.

Another big example, you may remember the Greens in Germany in the 80s. The two major parties in Germany started losing votes to the Greens so what did they do? They both stole the Greens’ environmental message.

Do the Right Thing

I do what’s right, not what’s popular. I don’t need to fit in. I don’t need to impress anyone. I don’t need to say one thing to one person then say a completely different thing to someone else. That’s what the Republicrats do. They tell you what you want to hear, and they pick their candidates based on winning rather than what’s good for the country.

I pick what’s best for the country. What’s best for the country now is someone who will follow the Constitution, not get us into any more wars, fix the economy, etc. You think McCain or Obama will do those things? Well, if you do, I have some land to sell you.

i agree one should vote for the best.

well we have this debate about who we think is the best for Europe… hehe. Well personally i think i am going to skip that debate… its bullshit!

You know it could be worst… there are leaders who put their good looks and media charm to manupulate people (Italy).

as long as people continue to choose to vote for the wrong people, hummanity is doomed!!

I’m something you hate, a Democrat, as you know, but I never change my message to suit the people around me. In fact, I’m so bad at appeasing people that the big fun at work is to see if they can bait Kathleen. *sigh* Someone got a pen thwack in the side of the head today…and he deserved it.

Tchoden - You gotta love the Italians though. Only country I know of that has a porn star in the Senate.

Kathleen - I don’t hate Democrats, just like to make fun of them. I think both major parties are seriously lacking when it comes to real issues, and somehow this country manages to survive bad President after bad President. It’s actually quite amazing.

You should always vote for the candidate with the best media image and “values.” Seriously though, I am amazed at how badly the Republicans have messed up the economy, but they still have brainwashed many Americans into thinking we need a war-monger to keep us safe. So from a strategic standpoint, they have done a spectacular job of preying on fearful, confused, and trained-like-dogs voters. This is the state of affairs in a once proud and respected country. God help us all.

If there’s a good Green person, I’m going to vote for Green. But I don’t like anybody so far.

Oh. I believe if you don’t vote, you have no right to bitch.

Skeletor - Oh, the Republicans have been horrible. Bush is worse than the Democrats. He refuses to veto anything and he’s the worst spender since Jimmy Carter. Our nation is in heavy debt because of that dumb ass. He has no idea what he’s doing, and I don’t see why any Republican is defending him.

Agreed on the warmongering part too. We don’t need to rattle our sabers. We don’t need more security either. What we need are citizens with guns, and that’s it. And stop getting involved in foreign entanglements.

Kate - Agreed. If you don’t vote, shut up.

What a minute, are you telling me that McCain is running for the Republican ticket? I thought it was Sarah Palin!

i vote third party because both parties disgust me and i want to be able to live with myself after i leave the voting booth. i never thought about the effect that vote had on who wins. not that i needed encouragement to vote third party but i feel like it is less futile now. thanks.

    AMEN!
My favorite thing about Ross Perot was the way he pointed out to the masses that politicians are employed by WE THE PEOPLE. I always wanted a: “Don’t blame me, I voted for Perot” bumper sticker….but I couldn’t find one. :(

    gee!
well come to think of it, i think its good.
It doesn’t mean that what you’ve done in the past should in anyway harm your chances of becoming anything. You are what you are now:)
