“Don’t waste your vote on McCain”
October 24th, 2008“Don’t waste your vote on McCain,” Bob Barr said as he addressed a group of fellow Right-Wingers.
Agreed. You know I’m not voting for Obama, but to make one thing clear, that doesn’t mean I’m voting for John McCain. I hate the guy. I’ve hated the guy for a decade now.
John McCain has nothing to offer. He has gotten an F- from the Gun Owners of America before, he’s one of the co-sponsors of the Amnesty for illegal aliens bill, and he was in the forefront for that $700 billion waste of YOUR money. Small government my ass.
To add insult to injury, McCain wants to give a cabinet position to Carla Fiorina. If you don’t remember her name, she’s the former CEO of HP who ran the company into the ground, got fired and got a $21 million golden parachute out of it while sending thousands of American jobs to India and insulting American workers on their way out the door. Yes, I’m not making this up. The facts are all over the news.
So she can’t run a corporation. Great. She’d fit in perfect with McCain’s campaign.
I know a lot of people love to hate Palin but I think she’s a decent human being. Yes, I disagree with her on a lot of issues but she at least has one thing right - guns. McCain though doesn’t have a good bone in his body. He’s mean, he has a short fuse, and the absolute last person I’d want running this country is a “maverick.” I like to know where someone is coming from. If one is changing their stance on a daily basis, I don’t trust them.
My boss gets it
My boss is as Left as I am Right. But he’s an intelligent man and gets it. In ‘04, he didn’t waste his vote on John Kerry. He said “a politician has to earn your vote.” Exactly. You don’t just give your vote away because the other guy’s an idiot. That’s a waste of a vote. The person you vote for needs to earn your vote.
So he ended up voting 3rd party. So did I. Couldn’t stand George W. I knew he was an idiot in ‘00 and didn’t vote for him then either.
I’m not telling you how to vote. Vote for whomever you think is right. But do your research. Find someone who you would be PROUD to represent you.
As for me, I’m voting for Bob Barr. Yes, he’s done things in the past I don’t like, but he’s a changed man and I like what he’s been standing for for the past five years. He stands for Freedom and Privacy, two things we need to start fighting for after losing a lot of Rights under George W. If you want more info, go to his website. He stood against the bailout, against the Iraq War, for Freedom, Guns, and Privacy, against Surveillance, lower taxes, for increasing Border Patrol and taking illegal immigration seriously, etc. Sure not every issue he and I agree on, but at least we have things in common. I have nothing in common with John “anywhere the wind blows” McCain.
amen on not throwing your vote to someone who hasn’t earned it. i’ve decided i am writing in my vote. neither mccain nor obama is getting it.
oh, and notice to all pollsters. i refuse to answer your questions because i dont’ want a candidate “fine-tuning” his message to appeal to me. you decide what your own damn convictions are, tell me what they are and then i will decide if i am voting for you or not.
As you already know, I’m voting outside the 2-party system. I still haven’t decided who I WILL vote for, so I’ll give Barr a look-see. Thanks for the link!
There’s no sense arguing against reason. You’re absolutely right.
McCain has harmed me, as far as my civil liberties. Obama is an unknown quantity, unless you look into his past and assume he will govern in line with his philosophy. That doesn’t bode well for someone like me, who values free speech. Obama will, I’m certain, seek to stifle dissent… he does not like to be crossed… he’s demonstrated that.
McCain has stifled free expression through campaign finance reform (and, now he’s paying the price, too
A third-party vote does move the country in one way or another, especially if there are large enough blocks of voters moving outside the major parties. So, I don’t see a third party vote as “wasted” in any sense. When we lived in Maine, I registered as and independent and back in the ’90s we were a force to be considered in the state.
Lime - I haven’t been called, but good point about the pollsters.
Notice how Obama has really softened his Iraq War stance, and how McCain all of a sudden wants to protect your 2nd Amendment Rights. Geez, these guys are ass clowns.
Tshsmom - Sure. I think he’s decent. Not excited about him, but definitely better than Obama or McCain (which isn’t saying much).
Bo - I remember that campaign finance reform, or should we call it “The Incumbent Protection Act.” I don’t like Obama for other Constitutional reasons. so both candidates won’t be friends to the Constitution as they’ve both demonstrated.
Call me dumb (yes, yes, you can, really), I did not know you could vote for anyone else. (In France, on the final round, you can only vote for either of the two leading parties), but I don’t get your US politics I am as right wing as it gets, however, I don’t like your republicans very much… I like the Simpsons though (totally changing subject. :P)
Helen - Yes, we have something like six or seven people on the ballot in California. In the entire country, there are at least 3 people on the ballot. If you get enough signatures, you can be on the ballot, but you have to do it state by state.
Our main parties here are Democrat, Republican, and Libertarian. In California, there are also Green, Peace and Freedom, Constitution, Natural Law, and you can even run as Independent.
As for the Republicans, there was only one true Right-winger running and that was Ron Paul. He didn’t win obviously and we got stuck with John McCain who I have no respect for whatsoever. I’m not too crazy about our Republicans either.
This logic works well in a state that is “safe” one way or the other. However, if you lived in Ohio or Florida, and you HATED McCain, your vote for a 3rd party could actually help McCain (or flip the coin, if you hated Obama, you could end up helping him). Until we do away with electoral college and swing states, then those who have the misfortune of living in such areas where the difference between the candidate you hate and the candidate you only mildly dislike could be a a few thousand votes, you have to think carefully before voting a third party.
My youngest brother is voting for Barr. He can’t stand McCain as well and believes as I do that McCain is knocking on the door to dementia. In unfiltered and unspun video McCain acts and talks a lot like our grandmother did when she started showing sigh of the illness.
Even though I’m in Canada, I am going to be sooo nervous on Tuesday. “Please not McPalin, please not McPalin, please not McPalin…”
both guys are x-trem…
don’t like both, seems like voting is all about choosing for the lesser evil.
My house-mate from nigeria seems to be crazy about obama though, i can’t understand y?
I cannot beleive you guys are down to voting these two candidates…. are we running short of good people:)
Laura - There’s no way a vote for 3rd party can help a major party candidate. That’s not how it works.
The only vote that hurts a major party candidate is the vote not casted. Unless they combined the 3rd party candidates with McCain’s vote, I don’t see your logic.
Beach - Well, I don’t know if it’s dementia or he’s just an asshole. Pardon my French.
SME - It’s going to be a landslide for Obama.
Tchoden - That’s why I’m voting 3rd Party. I can vote with my conscience, and instead of voting the lesser of two evils, I vote for the guy I actually somewhat like.
Well the election is well under way.
Off Topic… Zombie, where in the heck have you been.. astray from the PackerHome forums.. lol/
See your comment from a couple of days ago.. at least you are still breathing..
On Topic.. Awaiting your opinion on the results.. I personally was impressed with both speeches the gents gave post results.. class and dignity from both.
I’m having trouble reconcilling the lovely person I met in SF with the crazy gun-loving Libertarian who writes here.
That’s a compliment.
Here in Michigan, we had a good six or so options, and I know a number of people were going to write-in Ron Paul which I had no problem with since it took a vote away from John McCain.
I, of course (as you know) proudly and happily colored in the circle (damn Florida) next to Obama’s name.
