Happy New Years!

December 31st, 2008

Happy New Years everyone!

I’ll be heading over to a party in a bit.  Hope all is well for everyone and hope everyone is healthy, and everyone who wants work has work.  Scary times.

Speaking of scary times, read Raemius’s Word on the Economic Crisis.  Yes, a lot of problems are caused by layoffs, outsourcing, and being undercut by globalism as I mentioned three years ago, but Raemius is spot on that a lot of economic problems are also caused by greed and mismanagement at the family level.  He shows a hypothetical situation of Jill and Joe Sixpack not spending money very wisely.  Unfortunately, this is literally half the people I know.

I have a few regrets in life. One of which is I don’t own a publishing company. I’ve always wanted one, and still haven’t reached that goal. There are a lot of good authors out there that are unpublished. Now, I don’t know if Miladysa is published or not, but I do know that her fiction should be if it isn’t. Read this for one example of something that I wish I was reading in my hands, not only online on a blog. Her fiction takes you there. I like fiction that can take you in so you feel you’re actually there experiencing what’s going on.

First Lady Laura Bush is an idiot

December 28th, 2008

The sad thing about this, I’m not making this up.  First Lady Laura Bush is calling her husband’s Presidency a success and says “…I don’t really feel like I need to respond to people that view it that way” to those of us who believe otherwise.

Wow.  And here I was trying to see the good in people for the holiday season.

First off, I’ll give credit to where credit is due.  Bush did two things right - appointing John Bolton be our UN Rep.  Good.  The UN is a chronic waste of money and Bolton believed in accountability, which is why he didn’t last very long there.  The second - John Roberts to the Supreme Court.  A strict Constitutionalist.  What we need.

Now, what went wrong? Well, just about everything else.

We’ve had seven years to find Osama bin Laden.  Had Bush not been such an idiot, bin Laden’s head would have been on a pike on the White House lawn years ago.  Instead, we get involved in a war that has NOTHING to do with bin Laden and our resources are spent elsewhere.  If that’s not a failure…

Constitution? Do I really need to elaborate here?

Economy? Wow.  Has anyone else seen their retirement accounts drop 40% in one year before?

The border.  The country’s morale.  Bush’s Presidency been one disaster after another.

Life Insurance Policies

Heh. Last night, one of my favorite fellow political junkies and I were talking about a trend in VP selection. The trick - pick a VP that is so horrible that no one in the right mind would assassinate you because no matter how much you hate the President, you realize the VP is even worse.

Reagan did that with Bush Sr. Bush Sr did it with Dan Quayle. Clinton did it with Al Gore. Bush II did it with Cheney. And now Obama’s doing it by having Joe Biden.

I’m no fan of Obama, but Joe Biden? There are only four or five people tops in Washington I hate more than Joe Biden.

Life insurance policies. Very clever, I’ll give them that.

Of fashion, bailouts, and outsourcing

December 22nd, 2008

So…

My blogging buddy Badman showed me a news article with Posh Spice saying that Brits are more fashionable than Americans, to which I replied “you can put a $2000 dress on a pig and it’s still a pig.” Not slamming English women of course, but Posh Spice directly. I don’t care what she’s wearing, she and her trash soccer moron hubby are pigs. Yet another reason I can’t wait for the zombie plague to start.

Remember how I was so much against the bank bailouts? I wrote three articles against it. Guess what? Here’s something to make you sick…

An Associated Press study showed that the execs from the bailed out banks got $1.6 billion total of YOUR taxpayer money. That’s just great. Someone please explain to me why these guys aren’t in jail.

In another bout of hypocrisy, the CEO of Bank of America said that the car companies shouldn’t get that $25 billion they asked for. Real nice, considering his company ALONE got $50 billion.

And yet another reason this economy’s been shaky that almost no one is bringing up - outsourcing. You simply cannot outsource more jobs than you create and expect everything to be rosy. The center of ANY economy are jobs. Unemployment is high because of outsourcing.

Since I started blogging in 2005, I was going off on this globalist mentality. It’s a bad idea. No, you can’t stop globalism, but greedy execs used it as an excuse to cut costs by cutting jobs. Guess what? When all the jobs are gone, there’s nobody left to buy your products. Seems simple, right? Apparently not.

It may be a long recession, folks. Make sure you save as much as you can from each paycheck and continue paying down your debts. Obama talks about creating news jobs. That’s nice, but how about save the jobs that already exist? I don’t think too many folks here are confident in their job security right now.

Are conservatives happier than liberals?

December 18th, 2008

Laura (the Sarchasm) posted a study that conservatives are generally happier people than liberals. In all my years, I’ve known this to be pretty much true. Sure, there are happy liberals and unhappy conservatives, but generally speaking…

The study has a lot of premises and explanations why this is so. You can read into it what you like. The link is in her article if you want to read it and it’s a short and easy read. It also includes percentages too.

From my experiences, I’ve seen that liberals see injustice everywhere and want to change too much. Conservatives on the other hand roll with the punches in life and only want to fix a few things. I’ve always said that if you want to change too much, you will fail, become disillusioned and cynical, and end up not accomplishing anything.

The press likes to make fun of us one or two issue people, but guess what? We’re effective. Don’t try to change the world. Just pick your battles. Find the one or two things that you want to work on and just do that. You will find that if you focus on one or two things, you will be a heck of a lot more effective.

Imagine if bad drivers drove you nuts and you beat up everyone that cuts you off. You’d never get home. You’d be beating someone up every other minute. That’s how I see liberals. The whole world drives them nuts and they’re unhappy because they see injustice everywhere.

I’m not at all denying there is injustice out there. I gave Laura the example of my Aunt. She knows sports more than any man you’ll ever meet and has just as much if not more charisma than 99% of the sports announcers on TV. But she’s a woman. Had she been a man, she’d have sports networks knocking down doors to hire her. Is it fair? No. Is it something I lose sleep over every night? No.

Learn what works, then do it. You can see the world as unfair and be unhappy or you can see what’s right with the world and tweak a thing or two that’s wrong. I think the latter is a lot more effective and also less likely to burn out.

The other thing with liberals - I’ve found that liberals tend to find what they disagree with you about and argue it over and over and over again, then argue it some more. Then the next day, they’ll bring it up again. No, not all liberals do this, but I’m using a stereotype that has some truth to it. Me on the other hand, I’ll try to find something I agree with you. I don’t care about changing your viewpoint to mine. If I like you, I like you and accept we have our differences. You can be Left-wing, Right-wing, Middle-wing, Christian, Muslim, Pagan, Atheist, Gay, Straight, Brown, Green, Orange, Male, Female, Narnian, or whatever. If you’re cool to me, I like you and just accept you as is.

I like keeping it simple. Liberals tend to make things complicated. Is that because conservatives are dumb? Hardly. It may be though because we’re more secure. And that may be why we’re happier.

Anyways, before you get mad at me, check out the study. I’m just saying what I’ve experienced. As I’ve said, I’ve known happy Liberals and miserable Conservatives. But generally speaking, the study has truth to it.

Flying Shoes, the Bill of Rights, and the Packers

December 15th, 2008

Yeah, I know President Bush will leave the office hated. You already know all the reasons I can’t stand him. But I will give him a little bit of credit though - he’s got some pretty good reflexes.

The Bill of Rights
went into effect on this date in 1791. It guarantees Freedom of Speech, the Press, Assembly, Religion, the Right to Bear Arms, Freedom from Search and Seizure, protection from Cruel and Unusual Punishments, the Right to not have to incriminate yourself (this is huge and shouldn’t be taken for granted; the British do not have this Right), and of course protection of your Life, Liberty, and Property without due process. Thank you Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the others who worked on these Freedoms. For those of you in America, don’t take ANY of these for granted. Keep in mind that those who will sacrifice Freedom for Security deserve neither.

Someone asked me why my beloved Packers suck so badly. I’ll tell you 3 reasons:
1) No heart. This team looks lost. I put the blame on the Coaching staff for this one.
2) No lines. I blame the Management for this one. Both the Offensive Line and the Defensive Line suck. I feel bad for Aaron Rodgers, the Packers’ Quarterback, who’s taking a lot more hits than he should. On the other side of the football, teams are running through gaping holes constantly. It’s been painful to watch.
3) Packer fans hate hearing it but it’s true. Intangibles that Brett Favre brought. He made you believe you can win when it defied logic. He has a charisma that is off the charts and people play their best when he’s around. Not at all a knock on the current Packers’ QB who I’m a huge fan of. I’m just giving Favre credit. Don’t be surprised if he wins his fourth MVP this year. Yes, he’s a long shot, but he’s still in the running. That’s one of the many reasons why the Packers are 5-9 and the Jets are 9-5.

Happy Bill of Rights Day. No, it’s not an official holiday but if I were running this country, it would be.
