Swine flu pandemic is a LIE

May 1st, 2009

Be careful of your government and the media.  The swine flu pandemic is a lie.

Right now as we speak, the Mexican government is using swine flu for a power grab, to have measures equivalent to the Orwellian PATRIOT Act.  I’m hoping Mexican citizens fight it.  We don’t need a police state right next to us.

Swine flu is NOT that big of a deal.  1000 people around the entire WORLD will die from it.  That’s about 10-11 days of driving deaths in the US alone.  Yes, let me put it this way - more people will die in CAR ACCIDENTS in two weeks than people dying from swine flu in the entire WORLD.

Are you still scared of the swine flu? If you are, don’t be.  I’m hoping our government doesn’t do the same crap the Mexican government is trying to do.

If anything, you should be scared of drivers not watching where they’re going.  The other thing, the drug companies are loving it.  People are panicking and buying drugs like crazy.  Their profits will go up because people are stupid and overreact to everything.

Remember SARS or that Avian flu?

Remember SARS? That was supposed to be a horrible pandemic.  You had some stupid doctor quoted as saying that something like 10 million Britons could be affected by it.  What happened? Less than a thousand died.  Wow.

Then there’s that Avian flu that was supposed to be so lethal and got people to panic.  What happened? Well, not much.  According to the World Health Organization, not even 300 people died.  Wow.  Scary.

Don’t buy it folks.  Like I said, watch out for bad drivers.  You will NOT die of this swine flu.

If you do have a flu, take your Vitamins.  Eat carrots or sweet potatoes for Beta Carotene, and take Vitamin C and probably a multi-vitamin tablet as well.

Eat right, get plenty of rest, and you’ll live.  It may knock you out for a week, but you’ll live and be able to get back to work next week.

You will be fine.  Just don’t let your government use a disease that won’t kill that many people as an excuse to take away your Rights.  I’d be much more worried about a Police State than a stupid disease.

Yep. It’s a way to panic people. Scientists say that this strain of flu isn’t as harmful as regular flu (which kills thousands of people every YEAR). Some people might want to take extra precautions if they live in an area where there have been cases (i.e. those who are immunosurpressed, very old, etc) - but for the bulk of us - the tip of the day is wash your hands and don’t sneeze on people.

Um. Well I’m no expert on the contrary I’m only 16 years old but i know a few things about new viruses, and this Flu is a new strain of viruses. With no vaccine. You contradict yourself when you advice readers that they’ll “be fine” after all its only a disease ” that won’t kill that many people” oh wait, so people should be careless about this flu, and not worry about dying because only the regular amount of people will die? So your telling them to not worry about it yet you say there IS a chance for them to die? I don’t understand this reasoning…

Laura - Agreed. It is that simple.

Candy - The death count from this flu is about the same as any other flu. Yes, you can die from the flu. But the majority of people who die from the flu are very young, very old, or have immune problems. You’re 16 and I assume you’re relatively healthy. You’ll be fine.

Candy: While it’s true that some people who might not catch the regular flu would catch this flu, because they lack the antibodies for the new virus, the plain fact is that this strain of flu is actually LESS harmful than regular flu in its symptoms and recovery time. So while more people *might* catch this flu who wouldn’t normally catch it, is nowhere near the level of panic.

There’s common sense measures - like washing your hands and staying home if you’re sick. And then there’s panic (buying masks and sealing your house with duct tape and barricading yourself indoors).

As a cynic, I learned a long time ago that a short-term panic is the best way to distract people from real, long-term problems.

    Laura - Right on, especially

And yes, I take back that 1000 figure. It will probably be less than 300. Big deal. That’s about 4 days of driving in this country, but that 300 figure is the entire world.

I remember those all and I am still alive. This lady I work with her sister was mad at her because she refused to bring her five month old daughter to her graduation.. she was afraid of this new epidemic…

once again i think the media hype is completely aggravating. it sells papers and boosts viewers.

Tweety - Geez. The kid has a much higher chance of being killed by a reckless driver than this flu. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if less people in America will die by dog attacks than this flu. It’s getting to the point of stupidity.

    Lime - Agreed.

Tell me about it.. Oh well its her choice not mine.. Well I am off to work on my day off again. This is part of why i am trying to get my degree. Thanks for the advice on the back supports. Will see what they cost me..

  10. comment number 10 by: The Zombieslayer

Tweety - Let me know how much they cost. If you can’t afford one, let me know. We’ll buy another blanket from you or something. I’d hate for you to have back problems.

I think the fact that its a pandemic is dumb, i dont know a whole lot about it, but from what i know we might as well put the regular flu as a big pandemic to……

  12. comment number 12 by: The Zombieslayer

Carlz - Exactly. It’s like “holy overreaction, Batman!”

  13. comment number 13 by: SME

I agree that the flu is being blown out of proportion, but I don’t know that over-caution is a bad thing when it comes to infectious disease. I’d be far more annoyed if the CDC was saying, “Meh. Let us know when it reaches pandemic levels, then maybe we’ll do something.” Ebola and SARS were contained quickly because health orgs took decisive, immediate preventative actions.

As for Mexico, it’s already got one of the most corrupt federal governments in the world. It’s already a police state in the sense that police officers can do what they want, when they want, how they want. I don’t see how a Patriot Act-like law would make it much worse (or much better).

yep. happened just as the populist fury backfired and torture investigations implicated pelosi et al.

suddenly there was swine flu plastered all over the news and pelosi et al scurried under the nearest rock

  15. comment number 15 by: Carlz

i also think that if people cant fathom the idea of soap + hands + water = cleanliness then they deserve to get the so called “swine” flu

  16. comment number 16 by: The Zombieslayer

SME - It’s Mother Earth’s population control. We’re going to get more and more of these as we get more and more overpopulated, and the severity will increase. There are simply too many people for the resources.

Simply being clean prevents most colds and flues, especially washing one’s hands. And yes, Mexico’s already extremely corrupt.

X - I’ve been slow. Have to look into that…

Carlz - That’s the thing. Most colds and flues can be prevented simply by being clean. Wash your hands and don’t sneeze on people. You’d think that would be common sense.

Here’s a quote you’ll like (if you don’t already have it memorized!) It is good for all occasions!

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” H. L. Mencken

There may indeed be a pandemic coming, but it will involve a disease that produces something like a cytokene storm. Something that cannot be treated effectively and spreads rapidly.

This flu isn’t it. The next one might be. You’ll know it when the media talking heads start dropping dead while broadcasting. And everyone in Washington goes to the country….

Always good to keep a few hundred gallons of water secured somewhere on the property, oh yeah, and a lot of tinned meat/fish.

Swine flu is a whole load of exageration from the media and government, sure, people died from it but they were all like babies, old people or a woman with chronic health problems.Sure, all of that CAN worry ppl and its gud to be aware but c’mon! cut the shit out!

There is no such thing as swine flu. Raising hogs for 60 + years now and never heard of it or saw it and I have raised millions of pigs. It’s a made up lie to scare people. This Goverment we have is getting corupt and trying to decieve people. Probably some idiot in a lab made it and accidently let it out. They do have population control in the USA if we have to many people living and times are bad. Look at whats happening right now around us all. Wake up Look, listen and learn. GOD is comming back soon. Remember what is true and what is lies! We have been lied to about a lot of past flus. Lies Lies Lies

10.5% of my school was absent from swine flu-like symptoms today.

Its crazy though. I keep seeing signs and memos to wash hands and stay cover coughs.. Any high schooler who learns from those posters should die from the flu. As if thats not common sense. It should be named to rare sense.

  21. comment number 21 by: Bruce

I believe many people will die from this flu but not from the flu. They will die from misdiagnosis of symptoms of other illness since doctors have been advised to just assume everything presenting as the flu is in fact h1n1. WHO is bogus and the signing of documents requiring potentially the forced vaccination of the population is treasonous.
