A non-political post
May 20th, 2009Well, I’ve been commenting about politics a lot recently, so I won’t this time.
I saw the new Star Trek movie last night with a bunch of friends. Let me just say as much as the new James Bond movies suck, this new Star Trek movie was good. Go see it if you get a chance. I loved it. If I’m not feeling lazy, I’ll write a review later.
I was working on a post for jokes you can’t tell at work. They’re racist, sexist, and make fun of just about everyone. These were the jokes I grew up with before political correctness and you know what? A lot of them hit one of my races and/or ethnicities. But so what? They’re funny.
I never got offended as a kid. I was one of those people who was always laughing (and usually in trouble with teachers). Maybe it was because I excelled in sports. I never had to prove anything.
I think if you look behind someone who gets offended easily, you see someone who:
1) led a sheltered life,
2) sucked at everything so is pissed off at the world
It’s usually one of those things. People who get offended easily are lame, and definitely not fun to hang around with. I don’t like hanging with people when you feel like you have to walk on egg shells around them.

I’m not going to lie and say I’m the resident expert in health. I sin a lot. I sometimes eat complete crap. But I walk everywhere. I rarely drive. I love living downtown so I can simply walk to the supermarket, to the drug store, to any restaurant I’m in the mood for, to the movie theater, to the coffee places/internet cafes, and to the local bars.
Walking rules. Walking gives me time to think. At work, I bug people to walk with me and you should see how much better off the people who walk regularly are. You can get the crap off your chest while you walk, and it’s such a stress reliever. I encourage everyone to walk more. It’s one of the best things you can do.
I’m pretty messed up physically. Walking is low impact, so I can walk for miles and not tweak my back or my knees. I never run. Yet, I’m in better shape than most people my age.
I still can do 20 chin ups. I do crunchies and push ups when I remember, but walking is my primary exercise and I feel like it is enough. My body fat is around 10% which is exactly where I want it. I’m no longer an athlete so have no reason to be at 5-7%. I also don’t have bulging muscles any more. No reason to. For me, excess muscle is just excess weight and it takes so much work to keep it. I don’t think it’s worth it, unless you got a shot of really making it as an athlete.
Anyways, that’s my little advice for the day - walk as much as you can. Just watch out for idiots who make right turns but don’t watch for pedestrians.
Had to part ways with a friend because of the offended-by-everything all of a sudden thing. Really sucked at the time and I still think it was prety cold (on my part). But you can only get a stfu so many times before it’s just over.
walking is awesome! I live in an area that gets alot of snow and cold in the winter, so i tend to walk a lot when spring comes.
Xmichra - Yeah. I try not to hang around people who are easily offended. I actually grew up in a somewhat violent town. Learned that words aren’t that bad. Being attacked by someone is.
I moved away from snow. Can’t stand it (except vacationing in it, which means that you get to leave it when the vacation is over). I mean, more power to you. I respect people who live in it and make the best of it. But not me. I’m a lightweight when it comes to cold.
that lack of walking is what i miss about not being in town, that and a sense of community/neighborhood. i used to walk everywhere but now i am way too far away to do that and it bums me out a bit.
Hey there. We love walking to but Green Bay is just to big to walk to or you dont want to live in the wrong part of town. So we have to drive to work.. We both live to far away from our jobs. I would like a bike for this summer to bike when its not raining though.. That would be great excercise.
I love to walk as well. I am very picky when it comes to food - I tend to eat organic foods. My diet is mostly vegetarian (I will eat fish, eggs and dairy only). I usually eat fresh foods made at home that way I know what I am eating. I do not like processed meals or fast food. Eating healthy food helps keep you in good condition too.
I feel processed meals and fast food is partly to blame for the increadsed rate of obesity (along with decreased physical activity). Check out thisiswhyyou’refat.com - it is amusingly disgusting.

Amen to THAT!! That is the relationship we’ve had with my parents for the past 30 yrs. This week we decided we’re not going to live like that anymore!
Z went to the new Star Trek movie yesterday. LOVED it! I can’t wait ’til it comes out on video!
Lime - That sucks. I’m happy being immediately downtown. No need to drive anywhere.
Tweety - Good idea. Bikes are easy on the knees.
Terri - We go to the Farmer’s Market religiously and eat a lot of organic veggies. I used to hate veggies as a kid, but as an adult, learned how to cook with them and they’re often now the showcase of the meal instead of the meat. We love meat, but eat in smaller quantities than before.
I’ll check out that website.
Tshsmom - Yeah, no reason for that, even if it’s family. I actually don’t like arguing, even when it comes to politics. I like to find what we agree on instead of what we disagree on.
Glad Z liked the new Star Trek. Our entire group we saw it with loved it, and one of the guys saw it twice.

PB - Walking actually helps build a sense of community/neighborhood. I met quite a few interesting people by just walking. I actually met a close friend by walking and wearing a Heavy Metal t-shirt and that started a conversation.
