World Peace isn’t going to happen

August 18th, 2009

I saw several “world peace” bumper stickers this morning and I was just thinking how silly and sheltered these people who have them on their cars must be.  World peace isn’t going to happen.  They might as well ask to grow wings and fly.

It isn’t going to happen simply because resources are finite.  There are already nations in this world that are close to running out of ground water.  Yes, completely running out.  We’ve already fought the first of the oil wars.  Just imagine what happens when nations run out of water.

The problem is simply there are too many people.  And no, it’s not because resources aren’t distributed fairly.  The last thing I want is some socialist crap where my stuff is taken from me by gunpoint (that’s what socialism is) to take care of people who have chronic bad luck, or are lazy or stupid.  People breed like resources are infinite and we’re sprawling like crazy, destroying everything in our path.

Nor do I want my money going to the war machine, as it is already happening because once again, resources are finite.  Like it or not, that’s the cause of most wars - fighting for resources.  The thing is, it’s only going to get worse.

So what can we do? Support global family planning.  Like it or not, if you truly want world peace, you got to have limited population growth.  Now this is a blog post in itself but statistics have shown that the best way to support family planning is to increase the education level and freedom of women.  At first I thought that was weird but then gave it some thought and it makes sense.

Deer hunters should know better

I hunt.  I hear upper-middle class white people from the suburbs all the time decry hunting, saying how “evil” it is.  The logical response from hunters usually involves that since mankind killed off the natural predators, we have the responsibility of controlling their population.  If we don’t, deer will over breed, then you will see the results of deer overpopulation.

You think humans are any different? There are no predators for humans.  When a shark or mountain lion kills one of our own, it’s so rare it makes the papers.  Humans have become the only real predator for humans.

Now, I am not pro-killing nor pro-war.  There’s a peaceful way to control the population - use birth control.  That’s all I ask.

UPDATE: Yes, you’re probably wondering my take on Brett Favre signing with the Vikings. I thought I already answered that in Vegas, where I put big money on both the Packers or the Vikings to win the Super Bowl. If either team wins, I’m taking Mrs. Z on a cruise.

The thing I find funny is Packer fans are having fits because of 1) Favre is a primadonna, and 2) Favre is playing for the enemy. Whatever. I’m a Musician and a Sound Engineer. I’ve dealt with egos bigger than Favre’s from people who have yet to accomplish anything. In other words, so what?

Now go Packers and go Vikings! One of you teams needs to win the SB so I can take Mrs. Z on a cruise.

As far as resources, Rush Limbaugh said, “Conservation isn’t the answer.” Of course millions of his sheep will believe him and waste as much as they can.

There are easy solutions to most of the world’s problems, but unfortunately, the world has way too many people, and too many retards among them to get anything done.

It’s all about population control. If we don’t do it via birth control, nature will do it via disease, famine, starvation, etc etc.

The sad thing is it’s at the expense of species, open space, and resources.

I am with you on this one Zombieman.
Resources = power and as long as there are resources left to be had, there will be a power struggle to own them.

I actually don’t believe in world peace, although I do believe in personal peace. The best we can accomplish is to find peace within ourselves and make good choices every day, regardless of the popularity of those choices.

If educating the worlds women, and giving them their freedoms is what it will take, then we are still in for a long struggle. It was not so long ago that women won the right to their own choices in the ’supposed’ land of the free, who will fight for it in lands where they are still accepted as property?

What about a chemical war where we drop sterilizing agents over countries that refuse to recognize human rights. Oh wait, that would be almost everywhere.

I’m with you with personal peace vs world peace. I see war as inevitable when resources get low because too many people fighting for them.

And yes, we’re in for a struggle when it comes to women’s freedoms. A lot of women don’t want them too, so that’s yet another struggle.

As for a chemical war, don’t be surprised if it’s in the works. I’m sure the leadership of China has considered that they’ll be fighting for resources with India in the near future. We’re up for interesting times.

    Unfortunately people just.don’t.get.it!
The only people I know IRL, that understand the dangers of overpopulation, are my immediate family! :(

The sad thing is a lot of “intelligent” people have no idea how bad it is. But then again, they don’t get around much and see it first hand.

So many areas that used to be beautiful where I grew up are now roads, houses, and strip malls. Or just mowed down and in various phases of development.

I have to agree with you re: over-population and water, but call me naive, I see nothing wrong with a World Peace bumper sticker. Is it impossible? Yes, but most dreams are and without dreams, there is no hope. No hope = why bother living?

On a happier note, (did I tell you this already?) in the latest elections here one city voted to keep an area near my Mom and Grandma’s homes as undeveloped. The only signs I had seen had said not to vote for it because it would raise taxes, but I think people are finally tired of every spare inch of space becoming a strip mall.

The reason I make fun of it is it’s so absurd. It will NEVER happen, especially with the population exploding and resources dwindling.

Violence does not only break out over resources.
Thwarted love, insanity, and hurt pride are also causes.

Furthermore, I think that Australia and Japan would take issue with your overpopulation claim. Many countries are underpopulated and American states like South Dakota need people desperately. Japan has a similar problem. Itpays women to have babies, meanwhile, Australian politicians are trying to inspire Aussies to have more kids by saying that it is their patriotic duty.

Meanwhile, farmers in America are paid NOT to farm. Drillers are prohibited from drilling on oil-rich American soil, and a great deal of resource rich international land has been untouched.

We are not going to war because of limited resources, Zombieslayer, and my kids are not the problem.

Miranda - I’m not blaming anyone specifically. In general, this world has too many people for too few resources.

Why do you think Japan has been a warmongering state? Why has China been so warmongering in its history? Why has China had cannibalism in its past on many occasions, most recently in the 20th century?

Why are there so many extinctions? There are more extinctions today possibly than any other time until we go back 65 million years.

There are too many people in this world.

South Dakota is NOT underpopulated. If it is, then give it back to the Native Americans. I’m sure they’d want even less of us there.

Australia is NOT underpopulated. I’m sure the Aborigines would like the whites and everyone else out.

Farmers in America are paid not to farm because of inefficiencies. Drillers are prohibited from drilling because of sensitive areas and not everyone wants an oil spill in their backyard.

Another thing about Japan, ever ride their subways? Japanese are nice and polite until you get on their subways. Now imagine if nobody took the subway and everyone drove. You think we have traffic problems here.

As for thwarted love, when was the last time we went to war for that? Vietnam? Korea? WWI? WWII? The Civil War? The War of 1812? The war with Mexico? The Philippines? The Latin American skirmishes (too many to list)?

Hurt pride? Can you be more specific?

Insanity, sure. But you can put the “insanity” level on pretty much anything. It’s insane to kill, period.
