Do NOT buy Toyota or Lexus
November 28th, 2009I love how people love to point out faults in American cars. Yes, every single car ever made has problems and American cars have their share. However, right now there’s an American car company that according to Consumer Reports, is at the top or near the top in pretty much every single category - Ford.
That’s right. Ford makes good cars. (I can’t say the same about the other two American car companies unfortunately).
On the flip side, I’ve heard horror stories of bad cars. I’ve read Ralph Nader’s reports of a glove box opening and almost decapitating a little girl during a small crash. I know all about the memo of the exploding Pintos.
That was then. This is now.
Toyota and Lexus have a serious problem where the accelerator keeps accelerating no matter what you do. Watch this video. It may just save your life. And if you’re about to buy a car, don’t buy a Toyota or Lexus. They refuse to acknowledge that it’s a problem, even though a lot of people have died already.
Toyota/Lexus accelerators out of control.
They have issued a recall. The problem was the gas pedal was manufactured too long.
Toyota’s quality problems are a result of trying to grow too fast too soon. It was ego ( and probably some nationalistic pride ) that made them want to outdo G.M. as the worlds largest automaker.
The new chairman, a Toyota heir, has realized this and also stated at a board meeting that they have lost their wayand will falter and fail if they continue.
While Toyota and G.M. were in a pissing match for bragging rights, Volkswagon is due to be the world largest automaker. They have increased market share and won the battle with Porche which now adds to V.W. sales figures.
There’s actually an interesting chapter in Robert Reich’s book “Work of Nations” that points out that there really is no such thing as an “American” car anymore. I’m curious, how one defines “American” products if the production and assembly of parts is done in other countries?
On the stickers here for new cars, they say percentages of parts built in America and also where it’s assembled.
That’s why I won’t buy something like a mini-Cooper. 5% American. Doesn’t cut it. So that’s how you’d call something American. Does it help American jobs?
As for Toyota, my beef with them is their lying about the problem. People died and they continued lying.
Judging by that criteria, you won’t but Ford either.
Firestone tires-blowouts/rollovers. Death-Denial-lawsuits etc…
And don’t forget about Chrysler, who fought for years against mandatory seat belts. Of course once it was implemented they crowed about the new safety feature that was in their vehicles.
Then there is G.M. Remember Ralph Nader and the Corvair?
You’re running out of manufacturers to support.
While you have every right ( and rightfully so) to not support corporate evil, you are being somewhat selective about your choice.
We have a Chrylser.. Not sure if they are any better.. But its doing its job for now..
I’d much rather have a tire explode than the accelerator pedal keep accelerating. Ford’s main egg on their face was in the 70s with the Pinto. Those people no longer work there. The Toyota people still do. I hope this new Chairman is better.
I don’t like GM, by the way.
I know nothing about Chrysler.
Another thing about cars and where they’re made, there are now some Japanese cars made in America by Americans. German and English cars are mostly made by Europeans. The stickers actually say where they’re made and the percentage of American components.
A friend of mine was saying though that don’t forget about the white collar employees. Ford’s white collar employees are in America.
The reason why I tell you this is I had car accident in the middle of Dec. 2006. On January 22nd, 2007, I made appointment for Feb. 19th, 2007. Nothing complained for that but when I dropped off my car (1999 Lexus RX300) at the Destination Toyota in Burnaby, I witnessed the smoke under the hood and I described them. However, they neglected the problem by saying it could happen if car was overheated. As I signed the consent form, there was a faire and they said they could take care of it. So I claimed the fire incident to ICBC again. Few days later, no one called me from ICBC or Toyota. So I called Toyota asked about my car, Toyota told me that they already ordered the parts without my consent. And the total cost was over $13,000. My car value was $18.000 I lost my chance to write-off my car. And I informed to Better Business Bureau about this problem. But the Toyota shirked to ICBC this problem and they just said nothing for that. I am sending these letters from Toyota general manager what he wrote to me. Also, I am sending the specific letters that shows my opinion. When you see the letter from general manager’s he never apologized to me. I am the customer who complained about their services. That is why I am so disappointed to Toyota.
LEXUS YOU almost got me killed but i’m still alive.
Special Thanks to: TOYOTA LEXUS
