In defense of Kate Moss
December 6th, 2009You may have heard last month what Kate Moss said. She said something along the lines of “skinny is best” was her motto. I don’t know the exact quote. Frankly, I don’t care.
Well, Britain has become butt hurt. Politicians have been insulting her left and right. There have even been groups calling for her censure and boycott.
Doesn’t she know how harmful she is to women, especially young girls with eating disorders? Cry me a river.
Look up the deaths each year due to anorexia nervosa. Look up the deaths each year due to bulimia. Then, add those two together and compare them to the deaths from obesity. You will see that being too skinny produces barely a fraction of the deaths to being obese. Barely noticeable. In fact, you can’t even compare them.
Political correctness aside, I like facts. Do I feel bad for people with eating disorders? Sure. But let’s be real. Eating disorders are so First World.
In the First World, it’s not being too thin that will kill you. It’s being too fat. So maybe instead of hating Kate Moss, the First World should lose some weight?
Just a thought.
By the way, Kate Moss has had enough. She’s leaving Britain. Good for her. It rains too much there anyways.
ya… see, i think i will just afree to disagree with you.
but she endorces a nice fragrance.
About raining too much in Britain?
The moral of the story is try to be healthy (not too fat and not too skinny), and if celebrities have that much control of your lives, you have a problem.
Surely you have seen the photograph in the headlines of man sitting half in a seat on the airplane and his other half is out in the aisle. Must we argue fat or skinny and simply take up a cause of how healthy we are in the skin we have control over?
I think Skeletor hit the nail on the head.
This post is about political correctness. The whole fact that Britain has gotten butt hurt over what Kate Moss said is what I’m making fun of. Thus the political correctness tag.
yes, exactly. It doesn’t reain THAT much in Brittan
i agree with skeletor. kate moss may be skinny, but she sure ain’t healthy. also, as one raising daughters, who have BMIs falling within the healthy range but who think they are fat, the barrage of messages from all media outlets echoing “skinny is best” makes me want to tear my hair out.
am i overweight and does it increase some of my health risks? yes. i don’t go around suggesting i am at a good weight but i also don’t promote self-loathing for anyone who actually is within a better range.
