Some more tips on losing weight

March 2nd, 2010

I get asked all the time about losing weight, how I stay slim.  Well, I’ll be more than happy to share.

I’ve always been slim, but have always had these habits.

1. Walk instead of napping after you eat.  Walking aids digestion.  Napping, well, that will make you fat.

2. Make a switch to whole grains instead of processed grains

3. Eat more green veggies.  Put olive oil and balsamic vinegar on them instead of dressing.  When I say green veggies, I mean real green veggies.  Not just iceberg lettuce which doesn’t cut it.

4. Sweat

5. Walk instead of driving.  Make a habit of doing this.  Driving is bad.  It’s really bad for your body.  Walking everywhere is one of the best lifestyle changes you can make.

6. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.  I know this is little, but seriously, you have to make lifestyle changes if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

7. If you drink, consider drinking a shot of liquor instead of a can of beer.  Those cans of beer add up.  Drink the liquor straight or over ice.  If you add soda to it, you might as well just drink beer.

8. Sweat.  I know I already said it but it needs to be said again.  And again.  Sweat.  You gotta sweat.  It not only helps you lose weight, sweating helps remove toxins from your fat.

Good points. Bruce Lee was a big advocate for walking too. Does it bother you to see people driving around the parking lot looking for the closest space when there are plenty of spaces open? Just park anywhere and walk.

What’s the cutoff for stairs? I worked on the fifth floor, and I usually took the stairs because I had your #6 mindset. But I lived on the tenth floor in the dorm and just used the stairs a handful of times. By the way, what’s with people not moving on escalators, or worse yet, standing side by side so no one can pass? The right side should be for standers and the left side for walkers.

I would add don’t eat at McDonald’s. Their commercials are annoying and you feel yourself dying when you eat there. I’ve been boycotting them for awhile now. If you need to eat fast food, there are places with better food and commercials that don’t make you want to punch somebody.

My secret for losing about 50 lbs in the last year:

3rd floor walk-up and not owning a car.

i.e. get up off your ass.

I’m always amazed at the people cruising the parking lot to get a close spot. They can’t possibly park 50 feet farther away, but think nothing of wandering around a giant WalMart for two hours. **scratches head**

I noticed that just adding a bit of walking makes a huge difference in both my weight and health. It only takes a little here and there to help take some extra weight off, well, here and there.

And tea is a great diet aid. It’s good for you and helps replace drinking stuff that isn’t good for you.

Thanks for the push to get off my ass after being sedentary all winter.

You know I love to walk but I am not walking 10 miles to work and back every day…LOL…. So we do alot of walking…

Shawn its the same way here and esp now with the Walmart by my house where they are putting a super center… They are adding a grocery store part to the Wal Mart that is there already.. They just need to make more parking now.. They dont have enough room and I am trying to figure out why they are doing this…

For some of us that are on the borderline of an under-active thyroid.. it is a daily challenge that requires more work and effort..

Post surgery.. now that I feel better.. I am on a mission to cut into the bulge… Three weeks in.. I feel great.
