Yes, you DO need a lot of ammo
March 25th, 2010Disasters happen in America too. Just ask anyone from New Orleans. Or San Francisco. Heck, Chicago burned down before.
With disasters come looters. Reading about the earthquake in Chile, Rene Orlellana sleeps with a shotgun in his hands and has already fired off 500 of his 2000 rounds of ammo. Source BBC (see below).
“I’ve fired 500 of the 2,000 rounds of ammunition I’ve got,” says Mr Orellana, who works for the Ministry of Public Works, showing off his gun licence.
“I fire over their heads to scare them off, and so far, it’s worked.”
Can’t happen here? It already has. Is your memory that short? Hello, New Orleans is in the US of A.
Or what about LA, California? Korean shop owners successfully scared away looters with semi-automatic rifles, you know those misnamed “assault rifles” that politicians love to ban.
You should have a thousand rounds of ammo to protect yourself and your family. Just when you think it will never happen to you, it will. Ask Murphy. Just like just when you stop paying your health insurance premiums, you get a major illness.

By the way, had a conversation with my son today about guns. I am heavily invested in this country’s success. I have a lot of stock + Treasury Bonds. He asked me about Treasury Bonds so I explained to them what they were. He asked if there’s any way for the Treasury Bonds to go down. I told him yes, if the country collapses. If so, we’ll be thankful we have guns. I sure hope not as I quite enjoy my Middle Class lifestyle.
That is just a sad truth right there. I know I would be prey… but I can’t justify it yet. But it is so close to buying a gun… the world has definately been getting worse.
You should really own at least one. I say this with an asterisk though. It is dangerous to own, and you need training. I don’t think anyone should own a gun and just have it sit. They need to know how to use it.
A gun is a tool. If you had a blowtorch but nobody showed you how to use it properly, you’re going to get burned.
The good thing is there is a lot of training available.
It is funny the way the our culture has changed. When I was a kid nothing was thought of kids running around with toy guns, (that actually shot some form of projectile) running around playing cowboys and indians, or war.
Guns have been demonized to the point that it is the general opinion that if you have one, you are going to do something to “harm” someone else.
People do not respect guns because they didn’t grow up around them. My dad had an arsenal that could have fought off a major war, but I never stole one of his guns and took it to school. He never kept them locked up, but I never got them out to play with.
I was taught from an early age that guns are just tools, that serve a purpose. Some tools are dangerous and can hurt you, or someone else, if used improperly. The only difference is the purpose of guns, if you get down to basics, is to injure, or kill. However, they should only be used when you feel your life, or that of your family, is threatened.
I own guns, (notice that is plural), and they are like drills and screwdrivers, something that you can never have enough of. If I could afford it I would buy a new one every month, along with enough ammo to make sure I don’t run out.
Everyone should at least be required to take a class in school that teaches handgun safety, and at the end of the class go to a licensed indoor range and be allowed to actually shoot a pistol.
It is when guns are demonized that people ONLY use them for bad purposes. We need to change our way of thinking, that guns serve a purpose, and that the possession of one does not mean you are just going to go out and start killing people.
I got mine.
Only 1,000 rounds? That’s just one really nasty firefight. As a brand new private with the old fully automatic M-16A1 I learned how awfully fast you could burn through the basic combat load of 210 rounds (7 loaded mags). I strive to maintain 2,000 rounds for every caliber I own (more if multiple guns shoot the same calibre) and 10,000 rounds of .22 ammo and I still don’t feel I am adequately prepared. Additionally, you should have at least 10 magazines for every weapon you own. Just my .02 cents as there really are a hell of a lot of zombies out there.
Redleg - Fo shizzle. I have thousands. I was just sayin’.
Kate - I know. You’ll survive the upcoming zombie plague.
Neal - Guns are just tools. Yeah, I think we grew up in better times than the kids have today.
