Think about these questions carefully
May 14th, 2010Do you believe in the Right to free speech, even for those who offend you or piss you off?
Do you believe that people have the Right to bear arms, even those of that scary race or that religion you don’t like?
Do you think people should be allowed to protest, even if what they believe is stupid?
Do you believe everyone should have the Right to a fair trial, even if the person is most likely a rapist or a murderer?
Do you believe that even who you think are perverts should be allowed to be safe in their homes?
Do you think people who you find strange should be exposed and ridiculed, and watched carefully?
Do you believe in the Right to free speech, even for those who offend you or piss you off?
~ Yes. Word problems are tollerance problems, or over-sensitivity. In the grand scheme of things, one word can change the course of the uman race… but to negate or suppress words could stunt it.
Do you believe that people have the Right to bear arms, even those of that scary race or that religion you don’t like?
~ No. But I think that’s because I am a canuck. lol… I don’t think that people should be walking around with weapons at all. This is my utopian feeling.
Do you think people should be allowed to protest, even if what they believe is stupid?
~ Protest yes. Be violent, no.
Do you believe everyone should have the Right to a fair trial, even if the person is most likely a rapist or a murderer?
~ Yes and No. A ‘fair trial’ is up for debate on qualifications too. But I also think that if you are found to be guilty of heinus crimes, and pled not-guilty, that there should be a much harsher punishment than jail time. You plead gulity, we’ll just off ya. You plead not-guilty and we find out ya are? You get to deal with Bubba over here until you beg me to off ya.
Do you believe that even who you think are perverts should be allowed to be safe in their homes?
~ Yes and no. I think some things are perverted that others do not. But if it is consentual perversion, that is quite different than say, child porn. Those bastards need a gun to the head.
Do you think people who you find strange should be exposed and ridiculed, and watched carefully?
~ No. Unless they are in politics
I understand what you are writing here. I just can’t blanket them all together (like laws do) and accept that people who are by actions, evil, have the same rights and freedoms as I do. I get the premis, but have to say it reallysucks that it works for those who are so…. unhuman.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, no. ;D
Free Speech: Yes, but there can sometimes be a fine line between free expression and inciting violence with rhetoric. For instance, you have the right to be a racist prick. You have the right to sling racial slurs. You do not have the right to threaten another person or mean to cause them harm - but it can be hard to tell when this line is crossed and is different in every case.
Bear arms? Sure, in an organized militia, just like the constitution says. The right to conceal and carry? No. The right to a hunting rifle, sure. The right to an AK 47, no.
Protest? Yes, because “stupid” is relative. What’s stupid to one person is perfectly reasonable to another. See: Religion.
Fair Trial: Yes. Everyone has the right to defend themselves in court and argue the evidence against them.
Perverts safe at home? Um, why perverts? Why not murderers also? And yes - as long as they are not committing illegal acts at the moment.
Strange people? Um, define strange? And no - because “strange” is relative. See: Scientology
Xmichra - Canadians have more guns per capita than Americans if I remember correctly from Bowling for Columbine.
Tshsmom - Heh. You and I see eye to eye on this one.
Laura - Speech, you got it right on. The limits if I understand correctly are direct threats of violence, copyrighted info/privacy violations, and slander.
Why the AK-47 though? From an engineering standpoint, you have to admit they’re works of art.
As for Scientology, strange is an understatement.
Yes — No
I understand exactly where you are going with this. Thomas Jefferson once warned, “It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own.”
So, to answer your questions, and forgive me if I get long winded…
Do you believe in the Right to free speech, even for those who offend you or piss you off?
Yes, unless your speech is a physical threat against another individual. But even then it should not be what has been labeled hate speech. A verbal threat should only be cause for the person threatened to kick the other persons ass.
Do you believe that people have the Right to bear arms, even those of that scary race or that religion you don’t like?
Yes, and the right to keep and bear clause of the second amendment has nothing to do with being part of a militia. As long as a person does not commit a crime with a firearm, they should be allowed to have as many, and whatever type they wish.
Think about it, if the founders had only been allowed to have long rifles and pistols, and the Brits had been allowed to have automatic weapons, (just an example people), do you think we would have won the Revolutionary War?
The purpose of the second amendment is so that people can stand up against their government. How can we do that when the government has all this high tech weaponry and we can’t even own a sawed off shotgun?
Do you think people should be allowed to protest, even if what they believe is stupid?
Sure, why not? And we shouldn’t need a permit for it either.
Do you believe everyone should have the Right to a fair trial, even if the person is most likely a rapist or a murderer?
Yes, but I think if someone is caught red handed in the commission of a crime, the trial should be swift, not bogged down in the legal system for months.
Do you believe that even who you think are perverts should be allowed to be safe in their homes?
Yes
Do you think people who you find strange should be exposed and ridiculed, and watched carefully?
No. the only people who should be ridiculed are those who neglect to understand their rights and vote for the same idiots time and time again.
AK-47 was just an example. It’s a weapon designed to kill people and only to kill people. Therefore there should be limits as to who should be able to own them and I don’t think you should be able to carry them around wherever you go.
The thing is, most of my guns are anti-people guns. They are designed specifically to kill people, not animals. And yes, that is why I purchased them specifically to kill people.
I’m not afraid of when the economy crashes, a pack of deer scapegoat whatever group I’m a member of and rounding us up and putting us in ovens. No, people do that. Not animals.
Paranoid? Well, anyone who studied college history ought to be or else they probably got all F’s. It can happen here as it’s happened here before. It’s happened in Europe a bunch of times last century even though Europeans like to believe they’re more civilized than we are (yeah, right).
I strongly believe everyone should own anti-people weapons, and the more people who own them, ironically, the safer we all are as citizens. I’m much more scared of a police state than the occasional whacko who goes on a killing spree. Those assholes kill tens of people. Police states kill millions.
“Do you believe everyone should have the Right to a fair trial, even if the person is most likely a rapist or a murderer?”
“Do you believe that even who you think are perverts should be allowed to be safe in their homes?”
I like those two questions. Everyone’s going to answer these with yes, normally, but apparently half the world thinks we can take matters into our own hands when it comes to pedophiles.
I remember in class. We had to write a paper on a site that put pedophiles and their locations on the internet for all to see. They had to take it down, eventually, because it was against the Dutch constitution.
Out of 30 people there where just 2, me and another girl, who agreed with taking it down and the protection of all human beings.
And we got harrassed in that class for a week or so because of “taking sides with child molestors”.
It’s absolutely amazing that, even after pedophiles have done their time, gone to rehab etc. they’re still thought of as people who you can’t put back between regular citizens, who deserve no privacy and, in some case, are fair game to be killed.
Well said Rock.
I hate pedophiles as much as the next guy. But when the government starts singling out one hated group, it gets scary. EVERYONE should have the same Rights.
What really scares me now in America is this whole terrorism thing. Our government is trying to suspend the Habeas Corpus to go after “terrorists.” Well, who is a terrorist? Someone who kills random people for a political cause? Or someone who thinks bad thoughts against his government? Where do you draw the line? In a police state, they draw it wherever they want to.
we might have more guns, but the question was a right to bear arms. I don’ think we should all walk around with guns. People as a whole, are reactionary, and with weaponry it gets out of control. You can argue about that till the cows come home, but that’s my thought on it.
And as for rehibilitating a pedophile, F*ck that. Mind you i feel the same about the murderers and other heinus crime folks (hence my comment above). And the something scary and bad to say, that people who like to advocate for the rights of all will surely beat me down for, is that one pediphile less is one less child abused, so do they deserve a fair trial? yes. But should you be found guilty, and rightfully guilty, should we pay to rehibilitate your ass and then PROTECT YOU afterwards?no. i don’t care if that person had something wrong with them. I don’t care what the excuse is. I don’t care who’s child that person is. What I do care about is saving the inocence of a child. And not just one, all of them. And you can preach all day long about how horrible it is to bend the rules, but unless you have been affected by a fucking monster, and then have seen it happen after you, to another, then you have NO room to talk about justice and what’s “fair”. Sorry.
An emphatic yes to all.
@xmichra
Let me start by saying that I haven’t been through anything like that. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be as a child, and even more so that you have to life with it for the rest of your life.
That said, there’s one thing we disagree on and that’s the rehabilitation part.
Putting someone in prison is going to cost you money. You’re going to lock someone away for years in a building where they have little to do, need constant surveillance and, in the case of pedophiles, get harrassed constantly.
Take a wild guess at what will happen once that guy gets out. Not only does he fall back in his old repetoire, he’ll also hold a grudge against anything and everything.
And they’ll be right back in there in a short while. Most likely for life, after another conviction.
It’s a vicious circle which doesn’t help anyone.
They nearly got it down with that pedophile center. Problem is, they put them in prison, then when they’ve served their time, put them in that center and don’t let them out untill they think they’re healed.
Now, I don’t have a problem with holding them there untill they got their urges under control, but locking up people after they’ve served their time just isn’t right.
And lastly, to the protection part, you don’t have to protect them in a special way. They should be treated like normal human beings. That’s the problem. They’re labeled as pariah’s. Yes, they’ve made a mistake at one point in their life and yes, it’s one of the worst and most horrible mistakes that one can make, but they’ve served their time and, hopefully, learned from it.
@Rockmolder,
I actually came back to try and erase my comment once I put it out here. Mainly because that was far too presonal, and I like to keep things more… conginial. I do have an opinion that I would rather be heard without motive. It’s unfortunate that gets missed most of the time.
I would agree with you, if I agreed with jail and rehab for crimes to that degree. I don’t. I don’t agree with paying for these people to be housed, cared for (essentially) and treated for ‘their sickness’. Likely one of the few, but this sort of crime (child molestation, rape, murder) to me, warrants the death penalty. Not costing me more of my time and money to make them “better” and adjustable back into the real world, under which I get nothing but harrasment from because I don’t treat these… monsters… like people because they “did thier time”.
Would you trade 20 years plus therapy to have someone do those things to your sister? your mother? your son? your daughter??
sign that paper, and I’ll sign yours.
Do you believe in the Right to free speech, even for those who offend you or piss you off?
>> i do but i guess everyone will have to have high tolerance some most people speaks bullshit!! plus its always the people who talk that talk nonsense.
Do you believe that people have the Right to bear arms, even those of that scary race or that religion you don’t like?
>> nope… i don’t know why we make armament.. the only people benefiting out of this is the armament industry. All the resources from arms can be diverted for something good…like reducing poverty, education, green technology etc.
Do you think people should be allowed to protest, even if what they believe is stupid?
>> why should anyone protest for something he/she doesn’t believe in… doesn’t make sense
Do you believe everyone should have the Right to a fair trial, even if the person is most likely a rapist or a murderer?
>> yup!! and after that they can cut off the rapist’s thing, esp when it comes to underage rapping…there’s no excuse for such an act.
Do you believe that even who you think are perverts should be allowed to be safe in their homes?
>> ??
Do you think people who you find strange should be exposed and ridiculed, and watched carefully?
>> nope… everyone is different… some are friendly, others are strange but that’s the beauty of life. If everyone looked or behaved the same, life would be boring and monotonous. So i think we should celebrate our differences.
PS: So good to be back… Hope you’re doing GOOD:)
