Today’s kids and gangs

September 14th, 2008

Yet another thing I hate about Yuppies - their complete inability to listen to their children.

I talk to teenagers all the time.  I find teenagers are a lot more intelligent than us older people like to give them credit for.

One thing I’m finding is a lot of teens are complaining about the gang problems in their schools.  The teens I know that are in the bad schools are saying that they’re not supposed to make eye contact.  Just walk to class with a purpose and don’t look at anyone.  What the fuck! Doesn’t this bother you? If not, are you really that cold?

I grew up in a not so good area, but didn’t have to go through this.  We didn’t have the gang problems that today’s kids have.

What gets me is nobody cares.  Yuppies will just continually spend more money to keep their kids in better schools and look the other way.  Of course, they’re too politically correct and stupid to realize that a huge reason for this problem is illegal immigration.  Yes, folks, gangs are coming from other countries to this country and they’re taking over our schools.

Illegals are taking over the poor and the working class schools.  Those schools used to be decent schools.  I know.  I went to them.  They ended up cutting a lot of the cool classes yet they kept ESL (English as a Second Language).  The thing is, the Yuppies don’t care because it doesn’t affect their kids.  The sad thing is that Yuppies and Old People are the only ones who vote.

Tell me, why are we doing this to our kids? Do poor kids matter, or should we just continue to look the other way?

At the very least, can we deport illegals who are connected to gangs? Do you at least agree with me this much?

Please welcome Neal

September 11th, 2008

Folks,

Please welcome Neal, who got sick of Blogger and asked me about other hosting options.  I told him that I own zombie-slayer.com, and offered to host his blog and he accepted.

I’ve always liked Neal’s writing.  Even in the few cases we disagree, I appreciate that he thinks out everything he believes and doesn’t just get his ideas spoonfed by the media or some ass clown on the radio or television with a lot of charisma.

Anyways, his blog is at http://www.zombie-slayer.com/neal and so far it’s looking pretty good. Drop by and say hello.

I still haven’t decided who I’ll vote for for President, but I guarantee you it won’t be Obama or McCain.  I strongly believe in our Constitution, and neither will do a fair job at defending it, so neither will get my vote.

Someone I really admire once said that you’re supposed to stand up for what’s right, not for what’s popular.  I’ve lived by that my whole life, and often got a lot of flack for it.  Unfortunately, I don’t remember who said it so I can’t give that person credit.

When I figure out who I’ll be endorsing, I’ll let you all know.

One more thing, if you’re wondering why I keep disappearing from the blog world, this is why.  When you have this right outside your house, how can you expect me to stay inside on the computer? This is a picture I took before going on my uphill sprints.

The Dark Knight

September 10th, 2008

Warning - contains slight spoilers. Keep this in mind if you still haven’t seen this film.

Contrary to popular opinion, this was not the greatest movie ever nor even the best comic book movie ever made, nor even the best of the Batman movies. It was still good, don’t get me wrong, but this may be hands down the most overrated movie I’ve seen in years.

The Dark Knight has Christopher Nolan reprising his role as Director for the Batman series, which reset with the awful Batman Begins. This time, Nolan gets it partially right.

Christian Bale once again is Bruce Wayne/Batman. With two assistants, fellow scientific and business genius Lucius Fox, played by Morgan Freeman, and the wise and trusted butler Alfred, played by Michael Caine, Batman takes on the Joker, a twisted sociopath with no plan. Freeman like always is likable, but his screen presence is limited, as is Caine’s.

Batman has three legal partners in crime fighting - the good cop Gordon, for which Gary Oldman does a splendid job, and Harvey Dent, played by Aaron Eckhart. Dent ends up with one of the film’s most important roles, but it is the recently deceased Heath Ledger who steals the show as The Joker.

I actually like what Nolan did with The Joker. Here’s a guy with no superpowers other than faster than average reflexes and a paranoid wit to him that gets him out of trouble on more than one occasion. The Joker also gets an A+ in psychology, playing people’s weaknesses against themselves.

However, his downfall is predictable. He sees the human races as cheaters and liars, and severely underestimates the good in humans. I saw that one coming from a mile away, and it took one dead zombie from the film.

If you know what happens in the comics, you’ll know what happens to Harvey Dent. I found Dent to be too easily manipulated by The Joker and just didn’t buy that a man with as much character can be duped like he did.

The other thugs were one dimensional, which is fine for comic book movies, but have a little bit of depth. These guys had none and were pretty much there as cannon fodder.

Overall, a much improved effort over the first one, but doesn’t compare to Tim Burton’s ‘89 Batman nor even ’08’s Iron Man. Still worth watching if you like action flicks, but it’s not great film by any means. 7 out of 10 dead zombies.

Don’t mean to be a jerk, but…

If your son is in a gang, or your 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, you screwed up.

What will they try to ban next?

August 22nd, 2008

There’s one in every group.  The “holier than thou, my kids can do no wrong and your kids are demons” mother.  You know her.  You’ve dealt with her.  You try to avoid her.

Unfortunately, those numbers add up because it’s such a large group.  And they vote.

What will they try to ban next? In the 80s, it was Heavy Metal, Dungeons and Dragons, and Rap music.  They even had a political voice - Tipper Gore.  Gore wanted to ban it all.  Heavy Metal was causing your children to kill themselves.  Rap was making kids have sex (because we all know teenagers NEVER thought about sex before Rap music was invented).  And Dungeons and Dragons, that was “a pathway to Satanism.”  The scary thing is, I’m not making this up.  She even wanted labeling for homosexuality.  I love how today’s Democrats try to slip that one under the rug.

In the 90s, it was guns.  Yes, the Million Mom March.  Ban guns.  Never mind that pesky little thing called the Constitution.  That was written by men with wigs.  If it can save just one child.  Of course, they were exposed making up statistics, but never mind facts when you can have emotion.

In the 00s? It may be a long shot, but I’m guessing the Nintendo Wii.

I’m waiting for it to happen.  A kid is playing his Wii, standing up and doing maneuvers, then slips and hits his head on the glass table and dies.

Never mind the fact that this particular mother never spent ANY time with that kid, fed him nothing but junk food while she told him to shut up and leave her alone because he was disturbing her reality tv show so that’s why she bought him the Wii in the first place.

Soon, you get the lawyers in.  Lawyers see dollar signs whenever an accident happens, no matter how bizarre or unlikely it is.  The lawyers contact the press.  The press makes mountains out of molehills.  Soon, another wife of a Senator makes it her pet cause and we get Congressional Hearings.  Another “Mothers Against” group forms, because there are always those mothers out there who think they’re not only smarter and more experienced than everyone else, they speak for ALL parents, and anyone who disagrees be damned.

Who cares about Freedom? Who cares about Individual Choice? Who cares about Fact? If it can save just one child…
